Thats a good question. I want to know too.

I have an s13 with hicas and abs. I want to at least keep the hicas. ABS would be nice if its not sucky ABS.

Might end up with poor man's ABS. lol

You can make abs work

also wondering this myself. in a similar situation. looks like you have to unplug the abs to get the entire harness out.

once its out, you can separate out those abs wires, feed it back through the wall, and plug it back up like it originally was. i think abs should work independently of the engine ECU.

Question for you: how did you get the harness out? did you have to pull the abs control box in the engine bay so you could get a grip on the harness? i'm stuck at this step

I don't know S14s but theoreticly what does the braking and abs system use that it has to tie in with the motor? Unloom wires and make it a seperate harness. It *SHOULD* work.-Alex

to gawdzilla : yes you hafto remoce the ABS module.. lol .. its olny the brake lines and 3 14mm Nuts you losieng thim.. to SLO_ .. the engine hares and the ABS unit, ar taped togeather cause the abs reads off the speed of the car, and a few other reading from the Ecu engine Rpm and such..

They read the speed of the car from the ABS speed sensors located at the wheels with a reluctor ring going either around the hubs or the axles. No reason why it would need to be tied it with the engine. When you hit the brakes and the wheel speed sensor notices a lockup then it'll let your brake up. I think the only thing it would need off the ecu is the Power and Ground, Engine rpm wouldn't have anything to do with it because you can disengage the motor from the trans with a clutch, so why would abs need to read engine RPM. Want to clarify?-Alex

i looked into it some more yesterday. pretty sure abs is a completely standalone system from the engine harness. just separate the looms and it plug it back up.

OlyDriftSquad:when removing the abs module, did you remove the entire tray that the module sits on, or just the module itself? i'm trying to remove the tray w/ the module cuz the tray is in the way of getting a good grip on the harness. 2 bolts from under the fender well, and 1 bolt down by the frame in the engie bay for the tray, right?

got it out this past weekend... now for the harness (the abs crap makes the harness so thick its hard to pull out of the car).

anyone know how to bleed obd1 abs modules for when i reinstall?
