I am about to buy some stock rb26 pistons and rods to stroke out an rb20, and I have searched and can't seem to find a straight answer whether or not I need the rb26 crank, I would believe that I do, and where can I find one? I can't seem to find one and have no clue as to how much one costs. Also what else needs to be done to the engine to make this work? Any head work, boring out? All info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I'm in the middle of a RB24 build and I will tell you right now do something else. In my opinion it will be better than the stock RB25 but, if you don't already have everything else you need it's not worth it. The porting will help but, it's not necessary. The RB26 pistons don't fit. The most you can bore the RB20 out to is 83mm and that's pushing it. Even at 82mm I've decided to partially fill my block. To use the RB26 rods you need a RB25 crank for a 2.3 or a RB26 crank for a 2.4 stroker. You'll need custom pistons because the new stroke will push the stock piston out of the bore. The bottom of the bores will need to be clearance on either side for the rod bolts. I believe a 25mm diameter and 5mm deep semi-circle is what Tomie calls for. If you do go for it get a new crank. It's not worth the head ache of machining an old one. The crank on this page( http://www.nismoparts.com/cata...#1783 ) is a deal. That's the short version of what it takes. Just remember if you go through with it I warned you.

Ok thanks for the info im not going to do it. I thought it was way more simple than that. I don't have that kind of money I just thought I could have used new bearings with the oem crank pistons and rods and it would have worked but that seams to not be the case at all, and you my friend have saved me!! Thanks!

LOL, doesn't sound like you are near ready to start that big of a project.

On a side note, sounds like you are thinking of a jeep I6 stroker.

will the bottom end of a rb26 fit in a rb25 block? and if you are going to do that why don't you just stroke out the rb25 to rb.2.85 (using a rb26 2.85 stroker kit)?

true....the RB26 head is way more baller and IBS kill for response...but the VVT works well... the RB26 crank will give you the extra 1mm or stroke so its the same as RB26..and my bore is 87.25mm so technically its a rb27..anyways buy my engine its cheap so i can do the RB30...
