Car: 91 skyline gtst with rb20 but in process of rb26 swap

Post

Hey first of all im sorry for making yet another post about rb swaps but ive been having a problem finding info on this paticular swap.

I have a 91 skyline gtst with an rb20 in it. this winter i plan on putting in an rb26 with rb25 rwd transmission with a single top mount turbo. I plan on doing all the work myself and having it tuned after. First of all i have not been able to find any info whatsoever on rear diffs. Is the rear diff from my gtst good enough/compatible with the rb26/rb25tranny or do i need another one an if so which one? From what ive read online i got an idea of the parts I will need but please correct me if I am wrong or have missed any.

RB26DETT
Rb25DET transmission
RB25DET Oil Pan????? this part is confusing me am i able to modify the rb26 one for rwd??
RB26 full car wiring harness including ECU
RB25 Tailshaft??? does this fit right on or need to be modified?
Rb26 Fuel pump
Rb26 Radiator

im sure ive missed some little things but any input would be appriciated as this is my first engine swap. Rb20 is coming out tomorrow ill post some pics if anyone is interested.

I started blowing a lot of half shafts (axles) after that and upgraded to a GTR diff/axles/hubs which has a lot beefier axle shafts. You don't need that with the stock twins, that's for sure

RB26DETT
Rb25DET transmission--yup
RB25DET Oil Pan????? this part is confusing me am i able to modify the rb26 one for rwd??--I think most people mod the RB26 pan for RWD, but I dunno
RB26 full car wiring harness including ECU---yup
RB25 Tailshaft??? does this fit right on or need to be modified?---Yup, but I'm pretty sure it's not a bolt together kinda thing. Mine was welded from parts between the R32 and R33 drive shafts
Rb26 Fuel pump---just get a walbro or something. You don't need the 20yr old RB26 pump
Rb26 Radiator---stock R32 Rad will be fine

im sure ive missed some little things but any input would be appriciated as this is my first engine swap. Rb20 is coming out tomorrow ill post some pics if anyone is interested.

RB26DETT- I prefer R33 Motor
Rb25DET transmission-- sure
RB25DET Oil Pan????? in thailand we are custom made with rb 20det oil pan with directly bolt in with get rid of 4WD pan
RB26 full car wiring harness including ECU--- it came with the engine ,isn't it?
RB25 Tailshaft??? does this fit right on or need to be modified?--- I think it need some modification but it lenght have to be extened a little RB25DET transmission are alot longer ,if i remeber it right
In another option if you will not make power up to 400 HP then save the money and use rb20 transmission ,but You have to use copper clutch only. The carbon will make it blow up

Rb26 Fuel pump--- I recommend to use nismo pump which a lot cheap .The walbro 255 is good if you can hadle it,let say don't use 26 pump
Rb26 Radiator--- I know that you live in the difference area as the weather climate,But I suggest you to go for performance radiator if you want to pull out all HP form RB26DETT.it is mostly easy to heat up ,and quite be often around here in Thailand.

So, that is my suggestion .Hope you will find some more

thanks for the replies. my plans for this winter include a top mount single turbo/full 3 or 3.5 inch exhaust, injectors, intake manifold, fmic so on.... i would like about 600whp so consitering this the rb20 rear diff would not work correct? can i use a rb25 one?

The R32 and R33 GTSt diff's are the same strength (same diff with a different cover IIRC.) If you want to upgrade you'll want GTR stuff. You'll need the diff, hubs, axles, and a few other little bit and pieces. It mounts a little differently. There are some little rubber collars/sandwhiches you'll need from the GTR. 2 or 3 of them I think for the mounting points, where on the GTSt it's just simple bolts through the housing.

Hey just wondering about the rb26 oil pan mod what exacally needs to be done and is it too difficult to do in a garage at home?

IIRC it's basically chopping off like half the pan and rewelding it up. I think it's fairly involved but if you can weld, should be possible.
