Greetings RB'ers:

Been a long time since I have been a regular here. Too daggum busy getting my company off the ground ( http://www.hybrid-audio.com ), holding down a day job, having three S-chassis projects, an audio competition team, being a husand and father or two youngins, and etc.

In recent months, I had planned on doing a BIG horsepower KA24 project in this car: http://www.buwaldahybrids.com/Project_240.htm. I was half-way there with project sponsors, and was about to take the plunge. Honestly, if the machine shop in North Carolina I had selected been more communicative, it probably would have happened. The goal was +800 whp. Alas, they were short on customer service, and a few months went by, and I lost interest. Meanwhile, interest in my blue 260SX, shown here: http://www.buwaldahybrids.com/260SX.htm got re-ignited in a very big way. So it's time to get stoopid on the RB26 in this car. The project began about three months ago for a four-figure wheel horsepower RB26.

To date the entire bottom end is complete and head work will be done in two weeks. Nothing was spared in terms of parts (quality, cost, potential). The rods were custom made. Pistons are ross racing, crank was strengthened and rebalanced, N1 block, N1 pump, racing bearings. EVERYTHING in the head is Tomei: Tomei cam shafts, valve guides, cam pulley's, valve buckets, valve retainers, valve springs, metal plenum gasket, metal throttle gaskets, metal exhaust gaskets, etc. We have upped the metal head gasket to a 1.5mm to lower compression to allow higher boost, more timing, with knock coming in way later. The head is fully ported and polished and to give cam (10.25) clearances within +/- .001mm, and the combustion chamber is being modified for the 1.5mm gasket; less detonation, and less knock. HKS head bolts round everything off.

I am working with Neukin/Turbo Goods ( http://www.turbogoods.com and http://www.neukin.com) for a single turbo T04 manifold to house a Turbonetics Super T-Series T-76 turbo. They are also building me a one-off 4" front pipe and test pipe. They will market both items very soon to the open public, so be on the look-out and support the guys that support us RB freaks. They are also setting me up with a 2.5" dump for the wastegate, a Turbonetics Newgen wastegate. I need hot and cold pipes (solid piping runs)---hopefully I find that somewhere local here in Atlanta.

On the computer side, I am thinking a HalTech from RPSport ( http://www.rpsport.net/ ) with boost controller and UEGO. Seems to be a great company, and a NICO supporter.

Enjuku Racing returns as a project sponsor as well ( http://www.enjukuracing.com ). I was "with" Enjuku before they got all popular and stuff! LOL

That leaves all of the "bolt-on" stuff. I know a Splitfire coil pack system is a requirement, and of course 1000cc+ injectors, but I was hoping the RB community would interject some wisdom, and help me sort through all of the bolt-on items I might wish to include (stuff not internal to the engine). Everything from oil pump to oil resistrictors, single throttle body, etc. I have all the fuel sorted already...it's time to think the icing on the cake.

Thanks. Good to be back here in RaceBread land.

Scott

PS: [edit] Thanks for the love on my other thread. I appreciate the "cleanest swap ever" comment in a big way.

Oh a full digital dash like this?

http://www.haltech.com/hal_mxl_dash.htm

Plus the m600 only has 6 outputs, and the m800 has eight, and they don't plug and play.

Sounds like you have a great start towards your final product. I'd love to see 1000rwhp out of the 26 in this s-chassis. I see you plan to use the n1 oil pump? do you feel its up for the task? In the end what are your plans for this car? (drag, show, drift, everything? dyno queen?)

Your welcome for the comment, but its the truth, it takes a ton of patients to make the bay look that nice, and thats one thing I lack, looking forward to seeing the car move along.

welcome back scott; it's good to hear the about the project is picking up again.haltech or aem will be the least for that power.fuel setup: -8 lines or mabye (-10), aeromotive external pump; surge tank

Hey guys:

Good to be back.

Shocker: As for the N1 oil pump, I have very realiable sources out of NZ (the world's fastest track TR [7.5 second 1/4 mile]), and all his customers are drag and circuit cars, and they all use N1 pumps. The more expensive "botique" pumps offer longer life, that's all. This RB will be in its third car and eight years down the road before the N1 pump would need to be replaced. Plans for the car are dyno and show, mainly, but possibly some drag.

BoostsFed: I am leaning towards HalTech. I have AEM in my KA24DET though, and it worked well (but that was only 420 whp). I am already running 10-AN lines, 8-AN return, external Aeromotive fuel pump (brand new, but I don't think it will support the power). Need to consider a surge tank.

So who's the expert on STB intake plenums around here?

Scott

6Boost (Kyle) wrote:burchenal, My personal favourite is the Rajab plenum, I have flow tested all the manifolds on the market, and it is the most even bar none, within 3-4 cfm per runner. It also uses the NA runners not the turbo runners, which while being longer and slightly smaller, actually flow more than the turbo lower half by 5-7 cfm as well. The plenum is small, and I can tell you its the same non ported manifold they run on the race car to run 8.3's.

There is much talk about short runner intake manifolds not loosing any low down power or spool, and without doing back to back dyno testing on an RB30 I can't show you a dyno graph, however I have done an RB25 with a greddy vs stock intake with plasmaman top half, and the greddy was 400rpm later to make 20psi than the plasmaman on the long stock lower runners. Also if you need any more indictaion, what does almost every production engine on earth, turbo or not have in runner length?? Thats right, pretty long hey, I doubt the big guys spend millions on development and get it wrong. 300rwkw will be a piece of cake for any of the plenums on the market, the above is only my personal preference and opinion, and the final decision must lie with you.

Out of interest, Tony Agius with one of my GT35 kits went 9.97@133 on 23psi with a stock rajab intake 2 weeks ago;o)

I have thought of selling it. I know one could never get out of a car one he has into it, so that would be the prohibiting factor. I have 10,000 hours of labor and $100,000 invested, not including sponsored items (another $40,000 or so). Doing the math, at $20 an hour (which is way cheap, you'll never find anyone to do this level of work...not 10,000 hours worth for $20/hour), the car is worth on paper $340,000.00+.

or look into the Weldon pumps; they have application every possible power level up to 2500hp.

From one RB26 High HP 240SX (74mm turbo) to another, ditch the N1 pump.

The Aussie's are rarely pushing these cars to big HP like we push ours.

Look at the Jun or Tomei, preferably Tomei.

You will need a Head Mod from Desynz Concepts in Australia, as this will help with the oil starvation problems at high RPM's.

Feel free to PM me, and we can talk further.

Take care,

Chris

I have a custom STB plenum on my RB26. A single Aeromotive 1001 pump won't cut it for big numbers. I've got two. Surge tanks are for drifters and auto-x'ers...not for shop queens or drag cars. Don't bother. This also introduces "lesser" pumps into the mix which is bad.

Split fire coils are definitely not needed. Spark enhancers (i.e. Twin Power, etc.) yes; new coils, no.

Every conceivable oil problem is solved with a dry sump. I did it and it is stellar.

But, my car doesn't even have a radio let alone an amp rack where the rear window is supposed to go so take this all for what it's worth.

Hey guys, thanks for the advice.

Chris, can you give me the ATI Super Damper part number off the damper you used? And also, did you use power steering and/or AC, or did you stick with just the water pump and alternator drive? I am a bit unclear about what to purchase...it seems like the damper alone has the alternator and water pump drive at the rear of the damper, and since I won't be using AC or power steering, this is all I need, right? Is it part 918593 (aluminum?)

I just read your post about the 1000cc injectors not supporting the horsepower goal. I had planned on 1600cc injectors, and would love to see/hear what you come up with for injectors.

You might end up having to run some sort of dual feed rail, so 12 injectors being ran... big HP supra boys and I believe a few high hp GT-R's are running multiple feed injector setups.

Riggs is also using E85, it requires around a 9.5-10 -1 a/f ratio, which is way richer than gasoline....it's not as powerful, but it does have a higher octane rating. I think that might be a reason hes maxing his injectors out at only 640 ish rwhp.

+1 depends on the fuel your gonna run will greatly effect your injector size and related parts.

nice ive seen your build thread multiple times, im still in the process of paying the debt off for my swap before i start building mine for high HP. but yea if i were you i would dump that n1 oil pump and go with a tomei if you want to rev past 8k rpm otherwise it wont have near enough volume to keep your motor from burning up. the oem and n1 is only good enough for 8k rpm but for anything higher wich with your setup your motor should have no problem wrapping out 8.5k-9k but that n1 oil pump would hurt you more then help you.

I was doing some research last night. With the ongoing success of my Garage Sale, I should have the money to hit a home run the first try and not "skimp" on anything. Here's what I will need...I wonder if there's a Nico sponsor that sells all of this stuff:

Koyo 53mm RadiatorRadiator overflow catch canHose between radiator and catch canFansStainless steel braided heater hoseStainless steel braided radiator pipeFull computer unitHKS Twin Power DLIHKS Twin Power DLI harness RB261600cc SARD injectorsFuel pumpSurge tank/plenum with 90 or 100mm throttle bodySplitfire ignition systemTomei oversize oil pump (still not convinced I need this. With my high-lift cams, I don't think I should be revving over 8000 rpm)Oil catch tankAluminum water pump pulleyCrossmember and mounts or mount kitShifterFull Neukin T04 exhaust manifold and 4" down pipe with 4" exhaustNitrous Express direct-port nitrous kit

I have everything elese already on the car, like 10-AN fuel lines, Aeromotive FPR, etc.

My nest step is sourcing the correct 1600cc injectors.

Thanks for the kind words M374!

I have an update...

Rotorua Import Pro Shop ( http://www.ripsltd.co.nz/performance/ ) and Syko Performance ( http://www.sykoperformance.com/ ) have been added as project participants!

R.I.P.S. is currently building me a crazy, one-off intake plenum and custom oil blow-by can, proven on Robbie Ward's 240ZX for over 1000 whp. We have already modified the RB26 oil pan to suit the oil bung for the blow-by oil from the can. First photos of the plenum are sheer, unadulterated car p0rn.

Syko Performance is coming through with a Polyurethane RB26 engine mount kit. They are going to be going to an anodized mount, and I'll be one of the first to get these.

Welcome to both of these companies.

I just purchased the AEM EMS with wideband UEGO. I need a MAP sensor (anyone with suggestions?) I also purchased a set of six Bosch (Bosch, SARD, and Denso all made by the same company and considered "Grade A" injectors) for the crackhead price of less than $400 shipped. Got 1680cc's on the way.

I made the last payment to my mate in New Zealand to finish the engine. I should have it in seven or eight weeks. Just enough time to finish up the minor body work imperfections in the engine compartment. He is also sourcing me an R33 crossmember, steering rack and engine mounts, and an A31 front sway bar. And while the engine is there, he's fitting it with a Tomei oil pump (you guys and your damn peer pressure) and Nismo pan baffles.

Neukin Motor Development is on board, as mentioned previously, with a custom T04 manifold, down pipoe, and now a full 304 stainless 4" exhaust. I am thinking about a side exit, right in front of the passenger wheel well...ghetto? I am sponsored in full by Turbonetics, and will be using their crazy wastegate, so Neukin is supporting me with a nice 2 1/2" waste tube.

In the last week, $15,000 has been spent, and that's with a healthy sponsored commitment from industry. That's what sponsors love to hear though---car owners putting their money where their mouth is.

Left to do is:

* Renew my Nitrous Express sponsorship and get a direct port kit and all the goodies on the way.* Buy a radiator.* Act on an old sponsorship commitment from SPAL for fand and accessories.* Buy a fuel pump or seek sponsorship for one.* Gotta do some shopping at JEG'S for all of my hoses and fittings.* I need to identify a good chrome shop that won't charge an arm and a leg.* I need to find a local shop here in the ATL to help me with some FMIC piping. Hopefully for cheap or free in exchange for press and exposure.

That's all for now. My Garage Sale helped fund a lot of this recent spending spree. Thanks to Stricnyne for his purchases...Carlos, you bought me my Tomei pump. LOL

Darius:

I hear ya, but it's not all a bed of roses with sponsorships. It means fulfilling some very serious commitments...attending shows and events, getting media exposure, and etc. I have found having sponsorships *can* be more expensive in the long run than actually buying the product in the first place. On the flip side, the exposure, media presence, and technical benefits of having sponsors is a wonderful asset. My company ( http://www.hybrid-audio.com ) sponsors sound quality competitors and our guys are the first to test new products, they get on-site support at shows, get free tuning, and etc. It's a win/win. But to make a car worthy of getting it sponsored means having a very serious initial investment. I am at well over $100,000 on my current vehicle.

I should try to figure out who orderd my ati dampner. I had to have mine custom orderd. But somebody from the shop who built my 26 orderd the dampner. I had mine built with just the inner pulley. Then the dry sump drive at the end. I just had to take and measure the crank stub at the end. Then I sent the custom order dampner to ATI. I had the shop who built my 26 order it because they were a ATI dealer. It still was 700 after the smoke cleared. Im playing with my 20 trying to get that ready for this years events. I havnt looked at my rb26 in months.
