Ok lets start.

A friend has a 280zx with an rb26dett in it with an rb20 gearbox, we want to upgrade to a rb25gearbox but can't find any. what we were planning to do is we have a RB26 bellhousing and we have the king daddy gearbox.

Thats why my question now, Has anyone done this? pair those two together ?

thanks in advanced

Myron

I'm a bit confused, you are running the rb20's trans now and want an rb25 trans? but can't find one so youwant to run an RB26 bellhousing with a "king daddy" trans?

the RB25 trans is the same as the Z32TT trans save for the front case (it's not really a "bellshousing" on these trannies, they use a front case and a rear case with a thick plate in the middle thatt he shafts run through), the RB26 trans I believe is built the same way witht he exception that the rear case has the "differential" to send a driveshaft out frotn for the frotn wheels so I "think" taht the frotn case form the RB26 could be sued in a conversion, the RB20 uses essentially the same trans as the 240SX, ca's, SR's and Z31 n/a's as well as trucks and a few other cars, built much the same way but not at all interchangable witht he larger RB trannies, and what si a "king daddy" gearboy?

this help at all? am I understang you correctly?

seatch throught he Z32 section, there was a guy there that converted a Z32 trans to fit theRB, I believe he had to change out a counter shaft, I won't swaer to exactly what it required but it was more work than I would have thoughtI guess they cal it the "king daddy" as it's the strongest nissan manual trans stateside, I think calling it the TT trans would be less confusing

z32 tt and na trans are identical minus the bellhousing ineer diameter (tt uses a bigger clutch and flywheel). You can swap front cases without having to change the shaft. There is a minimal difference in length but not enough to affect any thing.

i believe your correct about using the z32 tt transmission. Check in the rb section. I remember someone doing it in a z32 chasis. Also, same guy ended up mating his rb26 to one of those sequential shift transmissions.
