Not a super big diff, the years, series 2 being the latter, the wheel on the s1's is glued on, and comes off at hi boost, s2's have a steel wheel which doesnt.

Ignitor chip nearest the firewall side ontop of the spark plug cover indicates a series 1, series 2 don't have it.

Also, TPS sensor, 2 on s2 , 1 on s1 if i remember correctly.

What is the deal with the RB25 stong transmission/weak transmission? Is that directly related to series (seriesI/seriesII) or have they always made two diff. transmissions for the RB25DET? So in other words, if I go to an importer to buy an RB25, how do I make sure I get the good transmission?

so when people refer to the strong/weak transmission are they just talking about the manual/automatic? Maybe I misinterpretted what I read but in the RB20 vs RB25 vs RB26 sticky is said something about pricing the motor with the strong transmission.

well the rb20 transmission is the "weak" transmission but its still very strong, somewhere around 500whp is what the KA guys are pushing it to i believe.

hhmmm.... well that's not weak at all... well i guess it's weak for nissan... HA! nismo kicks *** - you da man Kamin!

So, let's see if I understand this... don't people use the rb20 transmission in lieu of the rb25 transmission because with the rb20 you don't have to get a custom driveshaft? And if the rb20 transmission is the weak one and it holds 500whp then what the hell will the rb25 transmission hold? Mostly, I wanna know about the custom driveshaft issue. Sorry, prob. could have searched for most of that - thanks

oh yeah, what did you pay for the tein coilovers if you don't mind me asking - i got a '97 in dire need of suspension work

oh yeah again, what modifications have you made to that RB25 and what is it putting out? are you running a KA radiator with some fan upgrades? Sorry, your engine bay is my background at work and since I never have anything to do, I mostly stare at my computer screen and drool over your RB

Actually there are two types of transmissions, and the easiest way to tell them apart is size, most series two motors, come with a larger transmission alltogether while the older ones or depending on what car it was in, have a smaller transmission.

Another way to tell the two apart is, if Series two motors have a pink sticker on the maf, and series one have a green sticker on the maf.

I'm not sure where you heard that, but I know all r33 RB25DET skylines came with the same manual transmission. You can verfiy that with the Nissan FAST.

seriously

there are no different r33 RB25 transmissions.

now, if you have gotten some clips with smaller transmissions...they are probably auto converts using RB20 trannys. or someone replaced their 25 trans with a 20 because its cheaper, easier to find, etc.

Thats most likely the case then.

It must be pure coincidence that i've seen smaller transmission on over 3 RB25DET series one motor sets and never a series 2.....

you guys suck...

so anyway, is it a better route to go with the rb20 transmission and use a KA driveshaft or just use the rb25 transmission and get a custom driveshaft... don't think my car will ever see 500hp

Use the RB25DET transmission its alot stronger than the RB20DET's transmission and better gearing. getting a custom driveshaft might be a pain in the butt, but i would go to a one peice steel or aluminum instead of using the two peice KA shaft becuase those are prone to break. With higher HP. My friends SR did it as well as my friends RB20 and they were pretty much stock at the time.

thanks for the info, Kansei... very helpful - I had no idea a KA driveshaft could bust with only 200hp

OneBitchin240 are you in South Carolina? If you are we need to hook up. i am also doing a RB swap. I can't remember the name of the company but to take the hard stuff out of the swap there is a company that sells everything that is needed to do the 240 KA to RB.

Does anyone know if a series I wire harness would work with a series II engine?
