So its rapidly approaching winter and the temps have droppped like crazy the past few days here in new york.

My radiator mod, stock clutch fan and nismo thermostat worked extremely well in the summer keeping my temps never above about 80 Celcius (176 F). But now even after warming up my car it doesn't want to get above 67 Celcius (152 F) at idle and driving it hardly goes up above 70C (158 F) and I can beat on it and like 73C (163 F) is the highest it goes.

I’ve noticed that my car works, responds, sounds the best when its closest to 80C. My idle is racing all the time now it never kicks out of that mode. What should I do?

Replace the thermostat?

Thermostat is stuck open or not working properly. The ECU pulls timing below 70C or so. So you definitely want to fix this.

Daym I wish I could stay around 80c. I go up to mid-nineties when I'm at the track, sometimes a bit warmer...

take out the nismo thermostat...around 70*c is its proper operating temp.use a z32 tt stat, problem solved...mine works fine year round with no over heating and coolant temps stay stable around 80*c.

This solved some of my overheating problems. Stant Z32TT.

BTW, anybody want a nearly new Nismo T-stat?

what overheating problem did it solve? i have a nismo t-stat right now and willing to try almost anything to help keep my engine temps down.

It helped to keep my temps more consistent. I wouldn't have to stop and pop my hood to let my fans cool it down any more.

I still have an issue with my rad (which I thought may have been a problem, but did not know to what extent. I also used insulating foam on the sides of my rad to help direct air through the rad, instead of around it. That was more of a proof of concept than anything.

its cool...you can continue to talk about the overheating issue here as I went through it and can advise as well. I first had an overheating issue and I went overboard trying to get coolant temps down and that lead me here, now, in the winter with coolant temp too cold. I guess I was alittle too successful at getting the coolant temps down.

Got Koyo Radiator, Nismo Thermostat, Dual Flex-a-lite fans, Thermostatic control, ducting. Hooked it all up and thought I was going to have the overheating problem nailed. It actually helped a bit…but after all that only a 5 degree drop in temps was achieved. That sucked. I was close to 100 degrees Celcius and now got down to like 94 degrees C.

After trying all different combinations of setups I finally tried to get the stock clutch fan back on. Got a different Griffin Radiator that allowed me to get space in front of the motor and slapped the clutch fan on. During the summertime here in NY I was able to get the temps to a consistent 75 degrees C. That’s nearly 20 degrees COOLER then before with all the “other” crap! But now in the colder months its fairing to be too cold and I can’t even get the temps above 67-70C so its gotta be the nismo thermostat because it opens at 67C. So I’ll be taking that off and going with Z32TT TStat which opens at 76.5C and should be my solution.

well i have a mishimoto rad, with a single 14" mishimoto fan which flows 1900 cfm. running the nismo tstat. during city driving i can get mid 90s usually. highway or any driving with not too many stops is ok 70s-80s, the best thing i did was cut the vents in my piggy bumper.

during this winter i plan to add a 2nd mishimoto 14 fan and do a cooling system flush, and use water wetter. also have new foam to install around the rad/rad support. i also plan on getting a cooling panel.

hopefully this will help.

i am having the exact same problems with my car not warming up in the winter. i guess its not that big of a deal for me tho because i dont dd the car. do your fans kick on once it reaches operating temp or are they always on?
