rb25det swapped into a 1995 s14.w/ turbo back exhaust and fmic kit

when running the car to redline at wot, there seems to be a "dead spot" around 4-5k rpms... at this point it it is making 12 psi on just just the oem actuator. it will break up and then clear up and continue on till redline.

with a silencer installed, it limits theboost to around 10-11 psi. the same dead spot occurs, only more muted... it doesnt break up, but there is a lack of power in the same range...

the ecu doesnt throw any codes, mafs was replaced and is reading correct voltage at idle. all coils and injectors are firing. timing is set at 15*. knock snesors read correctly at idle...

car usually feels robust in the low end and throughout the rev range while not at wot, although it does sem to be lack a bit of power until after 5k rpm.

also, at around 6k rpm, there is a screeching sound coming from what i think may be the turbo untill redline...

i have been over every bs problem i can think of from boost leaks, to spark plug gap.

i was told it could be something with the nvcs but i have no idea how to check that. also something about a rich and retard mode.

can anyone offer any insight to help me get this motor making its full potential power with this near-oem setup?

You *need* a standalone if you want to run more than 12psi on an rb25 and have decent results. I know others have done it with the stock ecu but their power levels are not where they should be.When the RB25 nvcs comes to it's shift point for some reason the ecu either dumps fuel and/or timing (R&R). IF you look at a stock rb25 dyno you can see this. Now when the boost is increased this R&R is magnified. power levels dip greatly. That's why you need to get a standalone.Have you tried bumping base timing a few degrees? Try that and see what happens..

thanx for the post. so u think that if i lower the boost to about 10 psi the problem will be diminished? i have 93 octane around here would bumping the timing 1 or 2 degrees be ok and will not hurt the motor?
