Hey guys & Gals,
Im having some trouble finding some information, I was wondering if you all can help or guide me in the right direction for the information im looking for.
So Ive always been satisfied with RB25 nun turbo power, however, recently my engine block was damaged and i just got a bare head and block to replace it.
Then the engine over heated and warped the new head on the new block.
So i took the head from the first engine and put it on the new engine block, it worked great for 2 days then the timing belt bust ( unexplained reasons as it was a new genuine timing belt etc. )
Now i have a busted head again, and a series 2 block. I was wondering if its possible too and if it makes any sense to bolt on a RB25DET NEO head complete with cams etc. on the Series 2 Block ( high compression pistons ).
Reason for thinking about this is because from the research ive done, the NEO RB25DE Head has smaller intake & exhaust ports and the exhaust cam has less lift than the turbo version.
So the main concerns i have are:
1) Will the head even bolt on the block? ( is there any difference in oil passages etc. )
2) What compression ratio on average am i looking at? ( I know the NEO has a smaller combustion chamber in the head ).
3) Will I have any clearance issues with the Exhaust Valves hitting the high compression piston? ( The extra lift on the turbo head is usually on 9.5:1 compression pistons )
4) In terms of power, will i make any gains in comparison to if i just bolted on a RB25DE Series 2 Head? OR RB25DE NEO Head? OR RB25DET Series 2 Head?
I know 99% of you are gonna tell me im wasting time, im just looking for that information. I have no intentions of putting a turbo engine in my car, please dont go the forced induction way.
I already have a decent cold air intake with 3inch piping and HKS Mushroom Filter and a non-turbo header / extractor manifold along with 2.5inch exhaust piping and properly heat wrapped.
I also have a AEM FIC (still not tuned properly) wired in. The furthest I intend to take this build is to Aftermarket coilpacks ( maybe AEM Dumbcoils 40,000Volts ) and Individual throttle bodies for the intake.
So im looking for advise on the cam selection and head selection and if it would work.
Please understand it is going to be cheaper FOR ME to choose the right head than to install a turbo in any way.
Any information, guidance or advise will be greatly appreciated.
Thankyou in advance
