Hey everyone,

I think I've decided on a RB25DET swap into my 240sx instead of the SR20DET. I've done some poking around and I've noticed a few options on the mounting side of things.

1. Use factory crossmember + Mckinney Motorsports mount kit
2. Use R33 GTs crossmember + OEM mounts
3. use R33 GTs crossmember + Syko performance mount kit

I'm wondering which one is the "best", best in this sense meaning the easiest to perform (as this will be my first engine swap) and also the best quality (so it wont break down the road). As long as the price difference isn't too large, I'm ok with spending more money for a better product.

Also, if I have missed an option, please point it out to me.

Thank you

For best fitment and quality, I'd stick with the R33 RB25 subframe and Syko mounts. This is what I used on my RB26 swap the second go-around. I did have the Mckinney set-up, but I kept breaking the puck-mounts.

Excellent, that conforms with what I initially thought. For a S13 frame do you need to use the exhaust elbow that comes with the mount kit? or can you get away with the OEM stuff.

also, any idea where I can pick up a good R33 subframe?

I do not know about the elbow, but I am pretty sure it will work just fine if they include it with the swap. As for the subframe, I think Ricky at Rawbrokerage.com has a few as of the other month. Hit his website up. He is a site sponsor, awesome to deal with, and super fast shipping.

I made my own mounts...granted I really really need a skid plate my engine sits about 1/2 inch below the top of the radiator, the lowest engine swap I've ever seen. You can definitely tell the engine sits lower compared to other swapped cars, to me it just feels more planted in the front end through corners. I used the stock r33 cross member with the OE transmission mount with poly isolators in a cast steel containment cap so that the poly does not crush under the weight...works great!

As for the elbow, I did have to make a custom elbow.

Krazy, did you use the OEM transmission mount from your 240SX or from an R33?

I honestly don't remember if I used the 240 mount or the R33 mount...I was only able to get 1 screw on each side when I first did it which is more than enough. I did eventually make a new transmission mount that used all 4 bolts. I am also able to make puller fans work but it is taking some time and I am having to cut the radiator core support to make it work. I'll also be re-installing a/c...this is probably my 40th +/- RB swap.
