I have been talking to Alex from Drifting.com lately and he sent me a copy of Drifting.com's newest DVD, the "RB25DET Motor Build Part 2". I have purchased items from him in the past including the RB25DET S13 Swap and Wiring DVDs and have been very pleased with them. I have done the complete RB25DET swap myself in my S13 including the wiring, and while there are great write-ups on NICO, sometimes it just helps to watch someone do the work first.

The RB25DET Motor Build DVD Part 2, covers everything you need to know when assembling the block (the head assembly is covered in the Part 1 DVD). I personally have been weary about rebuilding the internals of any motor, just for the fact that I haven't seen it done step-by-step. After watching this DVD I have gained a great amount of confidence and if I have to rebuild my RB25 I'll do it myself!

The DVD starts off with a disclaimer stating various things, but basically the DVD is a documentary and not a manual. But never the less, it's a very good guide. Then they start right into the assembly, first the oil squirters (with torque specs), then thread in the main studs. They fully explain the install of the thrust bearings and explain the crankshaft crank collar issue. They show the proper usage of the plasti-gauge for the thrust bearing clearance and then final install of the crank with lubricating the bearings. Next is the install of the piston rings and pistons into the block. This part was the most informative for me, as I didn't know about the number of rings the RB has and the positions they need to be in. They also covered the wrist pin installation in detail since you don't want to scratch the inside surface of the piston. After the pistons are installed they install the oil restrictors, head studs, headgasket and head and show the proper torque specs and sequence. After the head is fully installed, they continue on to the water and oil pump, and then timing gears, tensioner, idler and belt.

Overall the video is high quality and shows clearly all the tips on assembling the block. I recommend this DVD to anyone who has an RB25 and is curious about rebuilding the internals.
