When putting the retainer clips in for the valves, can you detail the tool that you put the clips into and then push onto the valve for quick installation? This tool would be used instead of the conventional spring compressor tool.

Do you know what I'm talking about? I know my description sucks, but Carl recommended it after I had already rebuilt my entire head.

We will forward your question to Speed-O-Motive.http://speedomotive.com/

Please continue to post your questions here so we can address them in the DVD and post what we can on NICO.

The orifices are installed with a hammer. You're supposed to pound the original orifice down into the block.

To block off the oil feed you can either pound in a plug the same size as the orifice or drill and tap it for a 1/16" NPT plug. I just had the machine shop throw a steel bolt on the lathe and grind it down until it was the correct diameter. Worked pretty well actually.

We will be using the Tomei orifices as long as they come in on time...Filming will be this Friday, but some of the parts "had to be overnighted from Jahpahn!" Hehehe...it happens.

The orifices and head gasket were shipped to us.

When I pulled my head completely apart last year to fix a couple of bent valves (long story) I actually had to a make a tool exactly for this purpose, Darius. What I did was take a big *** socket (a little smaller than the diameter of the valve retainer plate) and mill out both sides of the socket so that I could stick a couple of magnetized screwdrivers down through the socket as I used it to compress the spring over the valve stem with a very large C clamp. The holes on both sides were approximately 2/3 the entire length of the socket. The little retainer clips just slip into the groove on the stem and once they are both on, I slowly released the C clamp. It was a 2 person job and took a while but once you get the technique down, it works pretty well. I tried all kinds of fancy magnets and such but this technique worked the best. I know that they sell tools for this but most of them are not designed to be used in heads in which the valves are recessed into the head. They are designed to be used on GM and Ford stuff that have the valves sitting above the surface of the head and are actuated by pushrods.

Allright, after a few weeks down due to Ferrea's springs not working with the S1/S2 heads, Tomei has come on board to rescue the build. We will now be using Tomei's single spring upgrade for our project. With these springs we should eliminate the spring lock problem we were having with the Ferrea springs.

As far as the Ferrea parts go, we incorrectly believed that their springs for the NEO head would work for the S1/S2, they dont. As a result we will be sending Ferrea a S1/S2 head to test on and develop a valvetrain that fits. At any rate they do have the correct valve size for the S1/S2 RB25 if you needed to order a set.

As soon as the head is done over at Speed O Motive we will head over San Dimas Auto where we will be rebuilding/upgrading our block.

Thanks for your patience.

Is anyone steering the ship over there at Ferrea? They have a great name and great parts, but why hasn't this been figured out yet. Christ, they should have known their solid lifter springs weren't going to work with hydraulic lifters. Huge clue = The NEO valves are almost a half inch longer than the S1/S2.

It has been over a year and a half since a few of us bugged the crap out of them and said they should make a set for the S1/S2 RB25's. I thought htey would get the hint.

Sorry to hear that you ran into trouble on this.

Either way, I'm running with Tomei valve springs and haven't had any installation or operating issues with them so I'm sure they'll work out well for you.

Yeah, bout the Ferrea thing, they just don't want to go through with it since the after market for the rb25 head is no where near the rb26 head, makes you wonder why the hell they did it for the NEO?! since hardly anyone even owns one...

maybe they are getting the hint there is a good deal of people wanting these items. Their prices do need to come down..... I got *** raped for one lousey valve.

Were you able to return the springs or did they still charge you?

It's all good on my end with Ferrea, they still helped out a lot during the whole process and it's unfortunate we couldn't use their entire valve-train. However, one thing that Ferrea is looking at is the release of the R33 Skyline next year in Canada which will bring with it an influx of Series 1 Rb25s. Seems like we can all look to Canada for your RB25 needs soon.

this project was on hold because of an issue with the springs but we should finish this up by the end of next week

PLEASE POST your question on here ASAP so we can do our best to address them in the DVD.

Even if you do not purchase the DVD we still do our best to answer questions on the forum.

Also heres an excellent guide on how to change valve springs. Its for an SR with solid lifters, but works the same for RB's
