Cut open the oil filter too. Often when a bearing first begins to loosen up, the particles are too small to get caught into the pickup strainer and pan. Like posted earlier also, it will not be magnetic. The important top layer of a bearing is often made of non magnetic babbitt metal which resembles lead and copper. When you get magnetic chips in your pan, it's already clearly heard and too late. Magnetic bearing chips mean you have made it down to the base metal of the bearing well into the copper layer.
BTW, just because the head has been rebuilt, doesn't mean it will be quiet. Chances are they didn't replace the lifters. Light ticking can be anything from a coil firing, lifter, or even the injectors. You have to be first sure of where the sound is coming from before you can truly diagnose it from a computer.
