Well, before you do put the auto in, what are your horsepower goals for the RB25?
If you are looking just for stock, maybe slightly higher than stock HP levels, then you are fine with the auto. But anything more than that, you will start having problems with transmission components, reliability, etc. You may want to have the valve body calibration done, better fluids, maybe a better torque converter, etc.
Also, in the automatic RBs, does anyone know if the ECU controls the transmission, or is it run by a smaller, seperate computer. I know that on the Maxima (89-current models atleast as far as I know) the transmission is controlled by a separate computer. If you are using the automatic, and the RB does use this separate computer, do you have it and do you know how to wire it up? It may be worth it to you to just find the 5-speed transmission, and the other related/needed 5-speed swap parts and just convert it as many have done, instead of having to put all your faith into using the automatic. Hell, even if you wanted to, you could find a cheapo RB20 5-speed transmission and use it'; however it is by far less capable of handling higher than stock RB25 horsepower levels, as its internals are similar to that of the KA.
Also, on another note, an automatic transmission usually has a higher percentage of drivetrain loss. So, you will actually see higher HP numbers at the wheels with a 5-speed over a stock or slightly modified automatic.
Just some food for thought for you. Good luck.
