I'm about to take the alternator in for a rebuild but was wondering if anyone had some input on it.

Car died on me the other day and there was no power at all. It has been running fine for the past year but issues with power lately. Lights blowing out and now this alternator issue.

I went and bought a new battery and the volt meter was reading 14.5 - 15 volts. So I thought it was done with. I drove to autozone to have them check and it was reading 12.5, so basically the battery power.

I drive it home and sat it in the garage for a few hours, I fire it up and it reads 13.5 to 14.5 volts again. I ran it for about 30 minutes in the garage and the volts go back down to 12.5.

Would a bad alternator ever read more than 12.5 volts, It seems weird to me that it would read 14.5 at start if it was bad.

I guess I'll just get it rebuilt. Thanks anyway
