Hey, how's it going? I recently bought a 1992 240sx for $300 from this guy who had it totally stripped. I was planning on swapping an RB26 or RB25 in, untill phase2motortrend told me that they test drove one that had really bad handling and was slower than the SR20. Basically, i was wondering if those of you that have an RB in your 240, what the handling is like, if it changed, etc. And please, answer only if you have an RB in your 240. thanks.

im not real crazy bout the sound of the engine really either.

look at it this way, if you add about 150-200 pounds to the front of a car it is going to upset the balance a lil. it can be adjusted with a lil imagination and a good adj suspension setup.

yea, thats true. I heard, from Underground Motorsports, that there RB26 doesn't really have any affect to the handling, at least not anything too noticable. It's just that if i'm gonna spend my $$$ on a swap, i want to make sure i'm happy with what i get.

Are you being serious?????umm yeah RB are very VERY slow you might as well put a b16 in your carit has more power

Im totally kidding, the engine to me sound unbeliveablein fact that was what made me fall in love with the rb i saw one and heard it, it was soo smooth and driving in it is crazy!!!You need to find out for yourselfAs for handling you can get coilovers and corner weight the carand mess around with the dampening

One guy corner weighted the S13 with his Rb25 and full interior and it came to 26xxlbs

Thats like the stock weight, not bad if you ask me!

And something like 54/46 weight distribution...a battery relocation, a/c removal, and s13 front end would probably solve that problem anyway.

thanks for the help you guys. As for which motor to swap. The RB25 or RB26. I plan to eventually run single turbo anyway, so i'm leaning toward RB25. Plus its a ****load cheaper. What are your thoughts tho?

Put it this way.. the RB25 is capable of 500+ hp on stock internals. Do you NEED an RB26? I did it because.. well, there is no reason.

Hell.. I would have been happy with a turbo on a built KA.

utter lies and bullsh*t. it DOES affect handling but not in the way you were told. that is a complete crock of sh*t.

Of course it's a crock but if someone can't figure that out for themselves by doing a little reasearch, I'd rather have them go with the bandwagon.

Edit: Well, with the SR bandwagon that is. The RB bandwagon is obviously growing rapidly as evidenced by this thread.

Yea, i've done tons of research for the past like year on both swaps, i'm still stumped. I think i need to test drive an SR 240 and an RB 240 and decide for myself. So does anyone have an RB25 240 near the bay area?

i totally hear ya.

while we are at it, anyone in the arizona with a rb26 240? i gotta see if its worth the extra cash.

but the extra weight up front was described (from a local pro driver) as a characteristic of the car. no big difference.

thanks you guys. I'm glad to hear the handling isn't really affected. I'm pretty sure i want to RB, but i'll figure it out in the next couple of months.

Me personally i upgrade suspension (handling) before i upgrade power. So the weight issue shouldnt really matter if you do this. Some nice firm coilovers, strut braces , even fatter sway bars, upgraded tie rods even. These all make a hell of a differance.

yea, thats true. I just think that a turbo L6 is better than a turbo L4 in this case. i heard that the RB engine feels like it belongs and has a wider power band than the SR, plus way more torque.

I agree with S14R33 If you have a decent suspensionm setup the extra weight shouldnt be an issue. A lot of the weight is on the beefier transmission so the weight is a little farther back. As far as picking an SR or RB powerplant have you thouht about turbo KA? Its already there, which means you dont have to buy a used engine, and the KA is only 110cc smaller.Boost on a KA24 gets you massive torque also. It may not be able to support as much horsepower stock as the RB but you could build a KA with the ability to have high horsepower around the same ballpark price as buying a RB and buyig all the little things that have to go with it. It seems like to me the KA has the best of everything its lighter and almost has the same displacement of the RB25. Just my friendly two cents. -lyons
