I know the actual differences. I know the cost differences. I know the pros and cons of each. Im just wondering peoples opinions if the 26 swap into a 240 is worth the extra what 5000, over a 25 swap? Ive read a lot of technical jargon and which engine is better why but im wondering if the 25 is enough in the 240sx. Ive always wanted an rb26 but its sounding more and more like the 25 will be good.

anything over 300whp is plenty for these cars. i had an sr w/400+ whp/wtq and beat huge number guys. hp/tq : weight is key

It's less about more hp and the fact I want a big boy rb. The reason I want the 26 is its considered the creme dele creme. But I'm not sure if I want to spend the cash since the 25 would be enough for me. It's a catch 22 I'm lookin for peoples opinions so I can figure it out

ive had the ka, the sr, and now i have a 95 with thr rb26(awd) still funtional. honestly it was tons of fun gettin light front tires launching with the sr, but now the extra weight up there is fine because the power is diff

I looked into the sr20 and the kats, and the rb20. If it was just about power a mild build on an sr20 would be enough for me, but ever since i learned about skylines and their rbs ive wanted one. that the only motivation behind it. I even looked into going to college in canada so i could own a skyline at least for a while. Its more about, to me anyway, the prestige of having a rb 25 or 26. Im not a tuner or even an import guy. Im a truck guy. I decided to get rid of my tacoma for a 240 mainly because I had the ability to find someone to trade and always wanted the rb. I wouldnt even own a car otherwise.

then it would only make sense to go rb26 since there's tons of 25's out there imho to have any kind of "prestige" behind them.

If I could do it over again, I'd start with an RB26 or just jump up to the big boy club with an RB26/30. You'll get bored with 400 hp after one summer.

Back when I bought my RB25 front clip in 2003, it was $4,200 shipped and an RB26 front clip was about $3,000 more. That gives you an idea of how far things have come with the RB swaps since then! :)

Save your money and go 2. I could have spent more on mine and bought the 26, but I think now I would have regret that decision since it would have left me no extra money to rebuild the engine and put a larger turbo on it. RB25 514hp @ 22psi > stock RB26

Id buy an RB25 NEO and find either used 26 internals or spend that money you would have spent on the 26 and invest in forged internals.. that way you save money, and have the displacement of the 26..

I'm in the opposite boat. I always wanted a RB motor'd car, so I bought the S14 because that was easily available. Now looking at time/money/power, I wish I would have just LSx'd the 240 and called it good. The cool factor and prestige goes out the window when you want to start making serious power. If I do blow this one up i'll either be going turbo lsx or possibly a RB25/30, depending on total cost. I will say there is no exhaust note on the planet that can rival a RB though.

Yea. Rb's definitely ain't cheap. I did want the 26 just to say I have one but really the 25 is just fine. Yea all n all the 26 is a better motor, has a better flowing head and is faster out the box but the money I spend on getting one I could have just put into my 25 and it would be even faster which is why im keeping it. To the op its really just up to u and how much money u got.

im wondering how u got a rb25, rebuilt it AND a new turbo for cheaper than a stock 26? lol...there's not THAT much diff in price rb25det neo or not 2900-3100 rb26dett 3100-3900. i mean 514@22psi means u changed a lot of stuff. i know they r cheaper but cmon. ur build is probably close to 7-8k when u figure in fpr, injectors, fuel pump, comp to run on, motor, transmission, labor, tuning, new turbo, gaskets. i guess what im getting at is u didnt make 514 on the same dollar as a stock 26 costs. the stock 26 and swap ceramic wheels to steel and crank the boost to 18.5lbs and thats a s*** ton of power at the wheels. just my 2 cents

A 25 with a 35r and a good standalone, fuel pump, injectors and tune will make 550 all day. Not really that expensive if you are a diy type.

Got any videos of that awd launch???

exactly Bill. a 35r, a GOOD standalone, fp,fpr, injectors and tuning puts u waaaaay over the cost of a 26 and steel wheel swap. i honestly trust my stock 26 over a slightly upgraded stock internal 25. to each his own i think they say. again i just wanted to put my 2 cents in so some kid doesnt just think that 25 swap is the end all and then gets it and first time it hits 20lbs it grenades on him. as far as cost. when u say a piston/rod upgrade or something its a cpl dollars diff. to the OP id say start on paper and research where u wanna go with it and crunch some numbers. rb26dett forged rod/piston set $1304 vs rb25det $1265. i mean srsly ppl...if ur spending cash if $39 is gonna make or break u......maybe buy a sentra or something

I went straight from the ka to the big boy rb26 and would not of done it any different. But I also have been noticing alot of the parts I bought to do the rb26 swap, the prices have been jumping all over the place but mostly going up. I say go with the swap that you already set your mind too before you made this thread, who cares about our opinions of the rb25 and rb26, there both solid engines with tons of potential. :yesnod

This is 100% truth
