I've searched for a couple days now, and found some good info, but not enough to fix the problem...

It's a s2 rb25 in a '93 s13 I got it a couple weeks ago and still haven't got it working well enough to go get it smogged/registered...and I'm ready for it to start working...

So when I hop on it while driving, it won't go past 2.5k-3k which apparentaly is limp mode, which is usually a MAF problem. I've checked various grounds and cleaned the air filter. So in the process of checking things, I found my MAF wiring to be less than appealing

it was taped up with about 20 meters of electrical tape and took about 10 minutes to unwrap...not sure if that's the problem, but it definetly isn't helping.

so here's my MAF

which from various pictures is the rb26 maf? is that correct? anyway here's the connector which doesn't follow any of the z32 maf pictures/diagrams I've found

and in the first picture, the wires that come from the loom (or at least behind the engine) aren't the colors that the s13 loom is supposed to have, so I don't know if all the wires are even hooked up right...I've got on the loom side:yellow w/ purple stripe, red w/ silver bars, green w/ orange stripe, silver w/ red stripe and solid black...

the car idles ok, and drives ok up to about 2k...and it idles about the same with the MAF unplugged...but I'm pretty lost as where to go now?

Any help would be appriciated.

thanks.

Ick... soldered wires...That seems like a R32 maf, which aint gonna work with out an S-afc. Go to a junk yard and get a 95-96 (maybe 97-98 too) maxima maf with connector. That bare wire is the shielding it should be going to a ground wire.

I've got a safc, and the guy before me had it all running at one point, so can I keep the one I've got, or is the maxima maf the solution?

The safc is really useless for the RB. You're better off selling it and getting the correct afm. You'd end up with a few dollars in your pocket in the end.

at this point it's rather nice to have, becuase the tach in dash is waaaay off, it says it idles at 1800-2200, when safc says 1000ish...supposedly I can fix that, but I haven't gotten that far yet.

That is a S1 Rb25 connector but I'm not sure about the wiring it's going to..

well since I had all the wires open like that I checked voltages, I'm getting about 14 volts to what I assume is power, and about 1.4 volts to what I assume is the ecu, at idle, is that about right?

Check voltage at the ecu. Ecu pin 27 should be reading about 1v at idle.

behind the dash was pretty messy too, but I took a day to clean that up, a few zipties, a little electrical tape later...wala a fairly decent wiring job

Well guys, thanks for your help. I went to Pick-n-Pull, and found a 95 maxima, just so happened to be the last car on the last row that there was...after a little time at kragen looking at adapters (this new maf is waay bigger), we found some that looked close to the right size, and after a little "heat treatment" we got them stretched out and clamped, a little solder later, I've got a rb that'll finally rev over 3000!! now I just gotta get it registered...
