I need help bad with this. Im doing an rb25 swap in my s13. The engine was originally an auto. I changed all the necessary items to make it into Now I dont have gears 2-5. I have 1st and reverse. If I pull or push on the shifter(depending on what gear its in) it goes in gear. But I have to hold it there for it to stay in gear. What could be the issue. Its an rb25det transmission. My car currently isnt running. No wiring yet. Plus there is no fluid in my transmission. Which shouldnt make a difference since its not running. Brand new slave cylinder from nissan

1) trans is probably dry and sticky from sitting
2) did you install a pilot bushing after removing the converter bushing from the motor?

its not an issue until the motor is running.

Yes its been replaced with a brand new pilot bushing from nissan. Im gonna wait till I get it running to see what its doing to see how bg of an issue it is. It just sucks that in order for me to get the transmission out Im gonna have to pull the engine. It sits to close to the firewall in my s13

most of the time they are close unless you made you own motor mount kit, then you can place the engine were youd like it.

id wait till the engine is running to worry about the transmission. did you order the transmission off line? site unseen?

I am using the syko mount kit. I bought the transmission from someone local. He was using the bellhousing on his z32. When I got it he had it taken apart but everything appeared to be normal. Him and I put it back together

hmm. unless yall didnt put something back together correctly. you could always slip the ds into the rear of the transmission and spin it. that mite free up what ever is sticky

might have to take it apart and check the shimming on the front bearings...
kinda left the part out where you said it had a bellhousing swap.

The ds is already installed. He used the bell housing with the z but he took it off to put the rb25 transmission back together again. Whenever I do get it running ill probably see then what it does. I just have to pull the entire engine out just to get to the transmission

When you get it all sorted remember to use GL-4, also what RB25 trans is this because there are different clutch types.

right right, but when you split the trans there are several things which can come off and if not replaced with the correct items can cause bearing bind and missalignment of the shafts.

Which brand is the GL-4? Its push style clutch and transmission. I will have to check whenever I pull the engine and transmission out for what may be out of place

most gear oils are gl4 and gl5 compliant but the gl5 compliant ones tend to have detergents that erode the brass syncros...that being said there are hundreds if not thousands of nissan gearboxes that have their fluid changed with gl5 specification oil with no ill effects.
