Hello,

I might do a 5 speed swap here on my rb20det auto transmission because auto is boring. I want to upgrade my rb20det in the future which i plan to get atleast 300RWHP so which transmission would be better rb25 transmission or rb20? I do have a limited budget so what do you guys think? Also what kind of clutches/flywheels to use? also does the rb25 transmission bolt up to the rb20det bell housing? and finally would a 5 speed give me better 1/4mile times than the rb auto transmission? sorry for all the questions just anxious to know answers.

rb25 transmission is definitely more stout and beefier than the RB20, if you can get your hands on one for a reasonable price I would go with that.

As for auto vs 5spd, stock for stock the 5spd would give you better times, IMO. Although an auto transmission holds boost longer, so I guess it would depend on how the car is setup, but just my opinion.

Anyone have experience running automatic on the track?

i have run my auto laurel (RB20DET) at the track. i was able to get some boost on the start line by loading it up against the brake and found it to be nice and consistent which is good for dyo. i also think a manual would give better times but a modified auto would also work well, the standard auto is a bit lazy for track work.

Most skyline people seem to say that the autos are a bit faster because of the fact they hold boost when shifting (as said already). As for launching, I don't think the auto can perform as well as a manual in that department. Maybe with an aftermarket torque converter or something...
