ok so i just bought an rb25 transmission to replace my dying rb20 trans. I have an rb20 in the car(s14) with an r32 cross memember. Will this move my shifter location at all? What will I need for the swap as far as transmission mounts and such? and who can tell me what type of driveshaft needs to be made for it to work and maybe recomend a company( i know mckinney makes one, but will it work with the 25 mated up to the 20?)

I don't know about the transmission compatability, but I'm sure others know. My question is, if you already have the RB25 transmission, why not try and install it?

I do know about the driveshaft and I don't think the RB20 has the same yolk as the RB25/Z32. You can compare to see if your RB20 driveshaft slides into the RB25 transmission, so that shouldn't be a big deal. If it fits in there, just have the driveshaft shortened/lengthened to fit by a local driveshaft shop. Who knows if McKinney even knows if it will work for your application. You'd have to send them the measurement and they could tell you yes or no. For the price they charge for their driveshaft shipped, you could have gotten one made locally in a day and paid a lot less. My $.02.

If the RB20 yolk doesn't fit into the RB25 transmission, you'll need new yolks front and rear, so you might as well sell your RB20 driveshaft to pay for a new custom driveshaft from your local driveshaft shop.

your driveshaft will not work with the new transmission if it is in fact a RB25DET transmission.

If it's a RB25DE transmission, it'll use the smaller yoke of the two in which is the same as the RB20. However, the length of the driveshaft will need to be altered.

With that said, a custom or off the shelve driveshaft for a RB25DET swap is needed. Since the motor should be pretty much positioned in the same area with a crossmember swap or conversion mount install your engine should place your transmission in the same location regardless or close to it.

But as Darius mentioned, you'll want to measure twice, and buy once in this case.

And if you are using a stock 2 piece driveshaft currently, I would just say ditch it for a 1 piece made to fit.
