I have recently come across an RB25 with the 5 speed transmission and I am looking at swaping it for my current stock engine in my 07 350z. I am trying to figure out how much fab work I am going to have to do to get it to fit. Is it going to be worth the work and the effort on a budget rather then forging and turboing my current engine?

a s*** load and absolutely not, the rb was good in its day but that day is over. the heads on the rb compared to the vq are absolutely s*** your HR stock will still flow significantly more then a fully race ported rb head, the quicker burning chambers allow more boost and spark on pump, it has significantly more displacement, all that combined will mean both of them making the same power the vq will make a ton more average power, ive compared dynos also and saw that anything larger then a 67mm turbo on the rb is crap and just about useless for anything other then a straight drag engine. the vq transmission is also alot stronger then the 5 speed, and by the time you get the engine in the car and working you could have turbo'd. the only weak point the vq has is the rods but it has a ton of advantages over the 2jz and rb engines.

well and crap builders i guess is a weakness for the vq too but im sure the rb has them too, stick with dynosty, sound performance, or vinny ten racing, or if you can wait till next summer i should have my shop going in NE ohio lol

the HR unfortunately you have has less options available then the de which has alot more parts available. but can handle 500 rwhp reliably since it has slightly stronger rods then the de.

I'm in total agreement with Jerry. You would be creating a s**t storm of work for yourself and if you're looking to do it on a budget you'd be losing before you even started. I've seen/read a lot on other forums about wonderful ideas for engine swaps yet I think I've only read of one that has come anywhere near close to being finished. Call me a cynic but I think you'd be better off putting your money into your HR instead of creating a money pit by considering trying to mount an RB into your engine bay.
