One of my buddies fresh from Iraq has been building his car. We finally got everything in and tried turning it over but it wont start due to something with the MAF... But we will get it worked out tomarrow.

Thats a badass turbo, although, before i ever touch the ignition to turn it over, open up your crank case ventilation on those valve covers ASAP

Yes we know it needs to breath but for the time being we didnt have the catch can or hoses so it has to do. The crank case can still breath but maybe not as well as it should.

Dont worry it will have a can put on it.

actually its not my car its my buddies car. Also look at how the hose runs it vents from the driver side cover to the passanger side which has the PCV valve in it which runs to the intake manifold.

Trust me it will have a catch can with breather running to those soon. This was temp fix.

PS you dont blow motors up with crank pressure. Maybe blow out a seal but not the motor.

Yes you do..... PCV wont do **** and the PVC is a one way check valve.

I dont remember the name of the poster, but he blew his engine and bottom end to hell on his RB25DET for not having a crankcase ventilated properly, if you cant understand the simple concept of what happens when you plug that **** up, god cant help you.

Why do you think they have that there in the first place?

Which way is that one way? Dude this car isnt even tuned and the most boost for the time being it sees is 5 psi. Dont worry I understand how the venting works but like I said before this was a temp fix so that the car could be driven to the shop for exhuast work.

By the time its ready to be tuned it will have a catch can with a breather.

just unplug it man, a temp fix would be to leave it unplugged

seriously!

you are asking for a CATASTROPHE if you plug that. and "only 5psi"? guess what, on N/A engines they can still blow apart with the PCV breather plugged. what do you think happens on a boosted one?

dont be stupid. vent it.

Just to insure you that having those plugged will destory your motor...well it does.

On my first SR one of those stupid plastic hoses that come with the greddy catch can melted and crimped the hose shut. 30min ride home, found out the problem.. car never ran the same after.. It ended up destroying the ringlands on cyl#2.

And even though your not boosting at idle or 5psi on load. the engine still produces pressure downunder and needs a place to breath..

Nice car, nice engine..good luck

Trust us. We're not trying to belittle you by telling you to take the hose off of the valve covers, we're merely trying to prevent you from effing up your buddy's motor. Under boost the PCV is pushed closed by the boost pressure. Any blow-by your rings goes to pressurizing your crankcase. That's why you have to take that hose off of the valve covers or install your catch can before you even start that thing.

Another thing, your fuel pressure gauge says ~33 psi. Does it get higher when the fuel pump primes?

everyone chill. I am the owner of the car and the crack is vented the problem is solved and the car runs beautiful except for it running extremely rich because of serious need for a tune. and by the way the fuel pressure is set at 43-45. The problem with the MAF was that it was wired wrong but problem was solved and it cranked the first try. Very loud on open downpipe by the way.
