OK, so today after I got to work I noticed my turbo elbow bolts were loose. So I went and got my spare gasket, replaced that, and tightened the turbo elbow back up.

But when I got done with this, I noticed that three of my nuts holding my turbo to the manifold are finger loose, and that there is a noticeable gap (about the thickness of two-three playing cards) between the turbo and the manifold.

Well on my drive home, I noticed that when i would get into boost (about 5psi) my turbo makes a noise like holding a pen in a spinning fan, and gets progressively louder with RPM.

It does it at a stop, and just revving the motor without the car building boost aswell.

My question is could I have torqued the turbo elbow wrong and flexed the turbo itself (kinda unlikely seeing as how its cast iron).

OR

Could the three loose nuts be causing the noise as some type of very strange exhaust leak?

BTW, no blue smoke out the exhaust, my oil level and coolant level are fine.

I still got to check for shaft play tomorrow after I get up and have some daylight left.

BTW, this is the stock RB25 turbo. Never boosted past 11-12psi.

only time my turbo made that noise was when it was over boosting...like 14-15pis. Does your gauge read right?

btw: the turbo is now blown!

Just sounds like an exhaust leak at the manifold. Tighten the nuts...the turbo on my RB20 used to back itself off, too.
