Some backstory:

A friend of mine brought me his S14 to do some work to. Long story short it ended up having a blown motor in it. He bought it pre swapped with what I believe to be a series 1 RB25. (TPS has a connector and a short sub harness)

He asked me to put a new motor in, I agreed, found him a motor (S2 RB25 I believe, TPS has 2 plugs but no wires coming off)

I put it in, hooked up all the wiring (had to swap coils and coil harnesses because they were different, and the knock harness because it was damaged) and now it's not starting.

I have spark, it has compression - but I don't hear the injectors clicking or smell fuel out the spark plug holes if I crank it with them out.

I checked the ECU codes and got code 34 - knock sensor - one of the wires to one was loose, but I fixed that.

How can I figure out what's wrong here and get it running?

Are S2 injectors or wiring incompatible with an S1 ecu/harness? All the wires look like they're in the same places but are different colors so idk.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. I'm pulling my hair out here, I want this thing to work so I can get it outta my garage!

im pretty sure you need an s2 ecu and harness man. if the motor is a series 2 and the engine harness is a series 1 how do you have power going to the injectors or spark plugs without them being plugged in at the back of the motor?? s2 motor with no igniter, series 1 harness with an igniter plug?

also series 1 ecu has diagnostic lights. series 2 does not.

Have you checked the injectors for power?

All you need to do is swap over is complete harness/coil packs&harness/TB & TPS.

I don't think the injector harness is different and also injector polarity doesn't matter.

I should also add the you need to make sure the exhuats camshaft cas drives are the same. If not swap over the exhaust cam.

cas was working or it wouldn't have spark.

Coils were plugged in or it wouldn't have spark.

Injectors had power. And ground. Wiring was 100% perfect.

All 6 injectors were sized. Swapped over to the old injectors (omg that sucks to do) and it works great now. Car runs awesome. I forgot how fast RB's were even at only 7psi. Making a lot of timing belt noise tho.. I think I may have overtightened the timing belt. Anyone have the timing belt tightening procedure?

where?

I think I'm going to need it anyways.

Took the car for a test drive, got about 3 miles, made a funny noise, lost all engine power and stalled. I pushed the clutch in and coasted to the side of the road. Timing belt is still on. SOunds like it has compression cranking but it won't start. Here's hoping that it didn't jump.
