To get the motor back to new condition take it to any good machine shop. There are some that may have experience with the motor, just call around in your area.
As far as if it is a good idea or not. That depends on what you are doing with it, what kind of shape it is in, and how much you are willing to spend. Rebuilding motors is not cheap(~$1000 if you stay stock) Refreshing motors is cheaper(~$400) Of course the RB price may be a little higher because of the gasket kit needed.
