Hi guys,

My RB will be here in about 1 1/2 - 2 months and I am gathering the parts I'll need up.

One thing I am wondering about is what to do when it gets here. I know that one member suggested replacing all the hoses, belts, and pumps.

What about internal parts?

Should things like the oil pan be taken out and cleaned after sitting so long in Japan? Please list some things that should be cleaned out and checked.

Also, if you take out the oil pan or open up the engine do you have to replace the gaskets?? I know McKinney has complete gasket sets which is great, but after just buying the engine and everything needed to get it in there, a new gasket set is just added costs.

Your thoughts??

Replacing stuff that is important to the engine is never a waste of time or money :D For the oil pan just use RTV when you put it back on

Make sure and check the bearings while the oil pan is off. It is prolly a good idea to replace timing belt, water pump and idler pullys. It is much easier to do this while the engine is out of the car. If you are going to replace gaskets such as the head gasket you might as well replace rings since you have the head off. That is defineatly NOT necessary.

Why would you already want to replace that stuff if the motor has under 40k miles?

Same thing I was wondering. Probably because of two things.

1) You don't know how well the engine was taken care of before you got it.

2)You don't know how long its been sitting around. things may have siezed up or seal may have cracked due to no oil.

I personally am gonna clean the oil pan, see if there are any glaring problems... and go with it.

Also, Nissan recommends that you replace the t-belt and water pump at 100,000km.......i.e.60k miles. The engine is out and its never going to be easier to change these things. Also, the clips have been sitting around collecting dust. That dries out the belts. I sure as hell am not going to risk my rb to save a couple of bucks. People who cut corners get burned. You have one of the most amazing engines on the planet. Why not just fill it up with 87 regular gas???? It should be ok for now??????????

Upgrade your fuel pump, this can be done and installed before you even upgrade your engine...

About the belts, it stands to reason that they may have dried out, but to be perfectly honest, i havent heard that happeneing very often among the swappers down here... it's a good idea, but chances are after he buys this engine he'll barely have enough money to eat :)

their layout does blow. I called and talked to a couple of people. They are very cooperative and they returned my call in a very timely manner.
