i got a 1990 300zx( z32) and i dont want a vg30de or twin turbo and really have my heart set on the god of all nissan motors, the rb. I know the vg would be easier but its to common, the vh45 is a good idea but it doesnt quite interest me and the sr20 is just too small.I've gone so far as to consider the notorious LS1. So i need advice on the rb swap. Has anyone done this swap before and can i get some advice and some know how...DO NOT ASK ME WHY I WANNA DO THE SWAP AND DONT SAY THE FAMOUS " You can do anything with enough money and time" i dont want to know how much money to spend and how stupid i might be for doin so, but i need a starting point so if anyone can give any advice...any at all please give your two cents...THANKS TO EVERYONE!!!!!!

P.S. if any body modifications have to made( hood, fenders, bumpers) that kinda thing...please let me know

You already know what everyone will tell you. This is not an easy swap. Try to search the internet on rb26 swapped z32. You will come up with next to nothing. It is only rumored to have been done in the states. There are two maybe three in japan possibly. It would take alot of money (ie 15k plus to do it. The RB will not fit reasonably without extensive firewall modifications in my opinion. I am about to do the swap and I can guarantee once I have done it I won't feel like doing it again. There are others that are attempting it too. There is no road map to doing it. The Z31 was designed with the RB in mind the Z32 was built around the VG. I am 27 and have my own performance shop and have been building imports since I was 13. I can fab and what not and this will be a seriously involved swap (the most complicated). It takes alot of money, experience, and time. Your best bet is to wait for someone to reliably swap the engine over into a Z32 and see if you can pay them to do the swap. The VG does make plenty of power and is a bullet proof starting point.

Two years ago before I did the LS1 swap I looked into the possibility of doing a RB25 into my Z32. I did some measuring (since a friend had a RB 25 motor in his shop) and found that the swap just didn’t make sense. What I mean with sense is workability. You see the LS1 is easy to work on; change the plugs in 30 min, change clutch in 1.5 hours, change cam in 4 hours, and parts are easy to get. When I looked at the RB it didn’t look that good. Yea Plugs are easy to get to, intake side and exhaust side is nice since it’s a I6 but the serpentine belt would have ended up in the nose panel witch would have meant take the bumper off every time you need to do anything to the front of the motor. You can go the other way and move the motor further back but then the transmission will end up in-between the seats and since the car is not as wide as a Hummer that meant extremely uncomfortable and hot under racing condition. At that point the exhaust would go under the driver which would mean the car would sit extremely high. I’m not saying that it is impossible to do the swap, I’m just saying you have to think about the small things because its not going to be easy. Not only that but if its going to be a daily I hope you got some spare RB parts lying around because if a water pump goes you going to have to wait for a wile…

it fits, it's been done, it wasn't meant to go in the Z32 chassis so it's all custom work, if you have to ask for info on a swap it's generally an indicator that your not capable or ready to do said swap, and if there were a "god" of Nissan motors it would have more than 2.6 liters :p

Been asked and discussed as everyone thinks its the cool swap into just about every Nissan because the motor came from a skyline. Lots of work, lots of cash, not really worth it IMO.
