Did a search and couldn't find this. To those that have done it, or know how its done... how do you get the RB25DET oil pan onto the RB26DETT block?

I pulled the RB26DETT pan/front diff yesterday. some observations:

1) the baffling is attached to the block, unlike on the 25 where it is stuck to the pan.2) oil pickup sucker is in a different spot, so that conflicts with the 25 pan3) bolts are different sizes in some places

my proposed solutions:1) remove the 26 block baffling and hopefully the 25 pan w/ its baffling will be ok2) dremel a new hole in the 25 pan's baffling so the oil pickup sucker can reach into the lower portion of the pan3) drill out some wider holes where the bolts are larger so the big bolts can thread through the 25 pan.

Am i going about this the right way?

I think you got the idea. I've never done it but I've seen pics of one modified. I don't like it personally. It can work but you loose a good bit of oil capicity which I don't like. We are planning to fab a steel pan around the frontswaybar and still keep the same amount of oil (almost 5 quarts) as the OE pan.

yea... i am afraid that this is not the best method, and could lead to oil starving. The 25 pan doesnt seem too deep at all.

However, I have no access to/experience w/ fabrication... so it may be the only way to go. Do you still have those pics?

an update on fitting the 25 pan to the 26 block:

the original holes that are for the 26 pan do NOT line up with the 25 pan. However, there is an "inner" set of holes which do line up with the 25 pan. The "inner" holes on the intake side, however, are partially filled and they will need to be drilled out/threaded to fit some new bolts. also, the oil pickup sucker connection is very close to the edge, and MAY not fit b/c the 25 pan will have to use the inner holes.

I'm curious to see some pics or a detailed description of how this will eventually work. Please help!! Mack @ Mckinney? Hopefully we can generate a well publicized solution to this... I'd be glad to do a write up/step by step instructions w/ photos if I could get a tried and true method. Thanks in advance all.

We have not make a jig for the pan mods as we only do the as we have a engine here. the baffels need cut to clear the RB26 pick up and the pan need cut bent out to clear the RB26 pick up and re welded, and some of the front baffels removed to clear the main caps. the RB20/Z31 oil pans used in the 240-280 z swaps.....
