Hi there. I'm piecing together my oil cooler install and i can't seem to find an oil block adapter anywhere for the RB25.

I'm trying to avoid using a spin on relocation kit or any of the sandwich adapters. I'm looking for a piece like this one (for the sr20):

Anyone know who makes one?

looks like that piece screws on to the block where the oil filter housing mounts. Even with that you going to need an oil filter relocation kit. The greddy one that rawbrokerage sells works fine, and it only cost 100 bones.

Yeah, but hes trying to avoid using the spin on style relocation kit. If you find anything similar to that, make sure you post it up, because Im looking for the same thing for mine.

yea, i know what it does....since i posted it...you must not have read by post.

I don't want to use the greddy kit, or an ebay sandwich adapter, i want a BLOCK OFF plate like the one i showed for an SR20.

This way there's no chance of the sandwich adapter or spin on relocation adapter backing off and causing problems.

any ideas?

pretty sure they don't make something like this. everything i've seen is spin on. what's the issue with spin on? the oil filter itself in spin on, and only hand tight.

since tomei made that for the sr20, you could call them and ask about one for the rb25det

the problem that you face here is that the SR's oil filter does not screw directly onto the engine block, but actually screws onto an adapter tree (somewhat like the 25). However, if you ever take a look at whats under both the SR and 25's trees its not nearly the same. By switching out the insert which allows everything to come together on a 25 you can directly screw on the filter to the block. The SR has passages that run to the tree, what Tomei did was route those passages through a CNC piece with AN fittings.

If you do not want to have extra parts on your engine you must swap out the threaded piece on your block with one from a L28 and use a spin on adapter. Trying to get the result of a SR block off plate will end up rather costly.

if you're trying to eliminate the 3 bolt piece with the oil to water cooler, there is a fitting that allows you to screw a sandwich plate/blockoff directly to the block, but it is still spin-on.

or unbolt the water-oil cooler and use a shorter bolt for the spinon adaptor, or an rb20 filter tree should bolt on.

wish i had my pictures but you just need the screw in piece from a 240/280z and you can bolt directly to the block.

there we go... thanks.

and at that point either run a block off "spin on adpater" or a sandwich.

the reason i wanted a block off plate was to simplify/remove the stock oil->water cooler, and run an oil->air cooler along with a filter relocator

what does it involve to run something like in the pics shown above? Who makes that sandwich adapter? Does it have a built in thermostat?

Basically i just want a simple way to hook up my oil cooler (with thermo). A filter relocator would just be a bonus. If i'm going to end up using a sandwich (like in the pic), then i might as well just leave the filter where it is instead of stacking on more spin on adapters

your local nissan should be able to get you one and its the oil filter adpater piece that screws into the block from a L28 280z motor.

We have a limited stock of Greddy adapters with thermos built in. Or you can look around for others that suit your needs.

ok, can you explain it a little more for me? So that silver piece shown in the picture above replaces the entire oil->water assembly, correct?

And since it's got -AN ports i can just run those to my thermo/cooler.

and then i have the option of either screwing my filter directly on there, or doing a relocation kit)

And that's an OEM part from the L28?

if ricky ever manages to get the right adaptor plates you'd beable to relocate the oil filter and have a thermostat for the oil cooler in one unit...

that sounds like exactly what i need.

Who's ricky and when is this piece expected to be made, and how much?

Otherwise, i've been looking at the greddy/grex adapter plate with built in thermostat. Is that a sandwich adapter? Or is it a relocation kit. I never see the spin on block off piece in any of the pictures, so i'm not sure

lol, I'm Ricky.

We've had some relocated oil filter adapters on order, just waiting on them to arrive.

They are not sandwich adapters, yet the piece that would remote mount your filter else where.

Block off adapters are available as well.

The Greddy/Grex adapters on the website, http://shop.rawbrokerage.com/p...d=197have built in thermostats as well.

yea, i'm interested in that one you posted the link to. So is that the plate you mount the filter to, cuz it doesn't look like a block off plate.

Do i need to buy a block off adapter separately? Basically, besides lines and cooler, what else is required?have built in thermostats as well.

to simplify my question:

can this thing be used as a sandwich adapter/thermostat? Or only as a remote mount/thermostat?

that way i could have the thermostat circulate oil to the oil cooler using only 2 lines off this block

The item I linked is not a block off plate. It will be ran as a sandwich under your oil filter.

If you get the Z oil filter fitting as described above, you'll run this piece on top of that directly to the block (as the pictures shown similar above). Then your oil filter on top of it.

Built-in to that piece I've linked has a thermostat that will only circulate oil to a oil cooler once temps have reached high enough to open the passages to the oil cooler.

So in short what you would need to run a oil cooler is:

Z fittingGreddy Sandwich adapterOil filterOil lines from sandwich (x2)Oil Cooler

Hope that was not me babbling

alright, i think i've got it now

but, the only reason the Z fitting would be necessary is for bypassing the stock cooler, correct? I could use the greddy sandwich straight onto the stock fitting if i wanted though....??

And when using the Z fitting, then you just block off the -AN ports?

the Z fitting goes directly into the block allowing you to bypass the whole oil filter tree (including factory water cooled oil cooler). You can either bolt on the filter to the block, or the greddy sandwich and a filter to the block.

without the z fitting what you would be doing is using the sandwich between the oil filter in it's existing location (as well retaining the factory oil cooler)

got it!

thanks for all the help

I'm assuming you're the guy in charge over at raw brokerage? It's nice to have someone catering exclusively to the RB community!!

I got a knock sensor from you a while back and look forward to doing future business with you. I'll probably get that thermostat block sometime over the winter.

Last question i promise.....where do i get the L28 fitting?
