I got a freshly rebuilt RB25DET Neo, w/ brand new GT3071r. It's been leaking out the front and back from the getgo. Smokes like blown turbo, oil in the airfilter, and hotside piping, oil out the exhaust too(you can see it in the tailpipe). Im pretty sure I have my valvecovers/pcv vented wrong...but would that continue to make it leak slightly? Right now the PCV goes to a vented catchcan. the valvecovers are connected together. Would that be enough to pressurize the crankcase? Otherwise the turbo is going back to ATP for a warranty. :/

Otherwise the engine runs strong. Idles well, fires right up, pulls smoothly and strongly. It made 383whp@~16-18lbs boost on the dyno, with it smoking the way it is.

are you running an oil restrictor?

-4an feed w/ .035'' restrictor. (line comes from stock oil feed location)
-10an drain to stock drain.
PCV directly to vented catch can.
Valve covers connected together. No breather.
oil pressure ~75-90psi cold. ~25@warm idle.

Are the valve covers connected and not being vented? The pcv i would eliminate, Id vent both valve covers to the atmosphere vented catch can.

yeah they were just simply connected. the pcv was the only thing vented.

Ive now blocked off the pcv, and vented the valve covers to a vented catch can.

Check the vent filter on the catch can to make sure it isn't plugged with oil residue. Just take it off and see if the oil issue stops.

The filter wasn't blocked, I did check that last night. I did try to blow through the PCV, it had flow...but just seemed very tight. Took some effort to blow through. Im gonna be heading to work soon, and Im taking it to see how it goes. Ill let ya'll know. I cleaned out the chargepipes and intercooler last night, as well.

I'd just plug the PCV off since you have the catch can set up appropriately.

If oil keeps on showing up, you know it is from the turbo seals.

Make sure the return line isn't swelled kinked or restricted.

What oil are you running? Thin oil can make it leak/smoke in some applications.

Blocked off PCV, Valvecovers connected to a vented catchcan took care of the issue.

The PCV valve was probably staying open under boost and you were pressurizing the crank case, and also the oil drain line for the turbo, through that. Problem solved eh?

Im having the same issue right now, after one pull at 20psi (gt35r) my catch can is almost full. What did you block off the PCV valve with?

Just disconnect it from the IM and plug both ports off with rubber caps and small worm gear clamps.

Plugged off the pcv valve and drained the catch can and went for a test drive with the same outcome.
Turbo is not responsive, smoking and filled up the catch can completely. I have the valve covers connected together and the top port going to a can then returning to the intake. What else could it be?

Took off the can hose from the cover while at idle and smoke was coming out, thinking that my valve seals are fuked. Time for a cam upgrade!

Could it be blow-by past the piston rings?

Sure its not condensation? Smoke from the breather is not a valve seal issue.. some smoke is considered normal.. as long as your not pushing lots of oil into the catch can I wouldn't worry.. smoking is gone? Good to go...

Did a compression test and cylinder #2 is dead. Dont know if the piston broke or the rings, gotta take it apart. So now im looking for a short block :-\
