rb25 ecu with rb20?

i recently got an rb20 with complete harness and ecu. i was told the motor turned over but didnt run due to a bad fuel pump. i didnt purchase the car so i dont know if thats true or not. i had a friend borrow the ecu for his car and he ran the part number and it comes back to be a rb25 ecu. my question is there anyway this would work or why that ecu may have come with the engine? i did search and all i came up with was it will run but not well. why is this?
