92 coupe with an rb25 and big front mount: ive got two electric fans on the back of the radiator pulling and one on the front pushing i have a stock ka radiator and it has been boiling over into my coolant res. it only happens when its hot out or when driven hard . i guess im asking what else i can do to cool it down i searched and found that people use those cooling plates for the top and bottom do they really help cause ill make one if they do also if i ran some drier duct from the two vents on the bumper to the radiator do you think that will help. ive changed the coolant ive checked for and removed any air that was in the cooling system. should i get a bigger radiator? with the fans idont think anything bigger will fit. do stock s14 radiators keep rb's cool enough ? should i put a fourth fan on the i/c to suck air through it towards the radiator. will my alternator be able to handle all the extra load?tahnks for any help !!!!! i searched and researched but need direct answers to these ques. thanks again :

I think you've got all the right parts in place. The basics at least.

Now it's all about airflow. I think the cooling panels and some other forms of ducting will make the differance.

That IC really cuts off the air to the radiator. So, if you can make up for it somehow by directing air to the area you will be really helping the situation.

Have you thought about a higher pressure radiator cap? Might help a little.

I've seen people put spacers in the hood by the windsheild to help vent some hot air from the engine bay... that would help a tiny bit.

An oil cooler might help a lot! Have you considered that?

What coolant and water mix are you running? Any Water Wetter? That might be an area you could improve a bit.

funny you said an oil cooler will help i have an oil cooler kit iwas gonna mount it behind one of the side vents in the bumper but i want to us those to direct air toward the radiator . ive got a trust 127kpa cap dont know if thats good or not they gave it to me free at xat. i discovered that the discount auto replacement coolant res. i bought had split open where the hose from the rad goes into it so i had to add about half a gallon of water to make up for what spilled while i limped it home. im going to the depot to by some aluminum today im gonna ghetto up a cooling panel and run some ducting ill have my father set up the oil cooler this weekend if it doesnt get any colder its for sale. also where should i tap into for the oil cooler should i get one of those plates that go between the filter and engine that have fittings on them or is there another way isnt the oil filter the same as the 300z so one of those sandwich plates for a 300z will fit corect y/n

I think the definitive way to solve cooling issues with an RB25 in an s13 is to buy a Koyo and mounts FAL 220s or 210s as PULLERS (if you modify the upper and lower rad brackets and core supports, they WILL fit), make underbody ducting to seal the passage of air from the FMIC so it has no where to go but through the rad, install an oil cooler and mount it in one of the lower bumper vents, and to run 40 below in the mix. If you still have problems after all of this (I did and it turns out my HG was blown), you have bigger probs.

i tested it for a blown h/g no co2 in the coolant. i made some underbody paneling yesterday also i turned the thermostat that controls two of the fans down alot so they kick on sooner and it seemed to run fine yesterday i drove from palm harbor to XAT and back and was kinda gettin on it on the way home and when i got there my father checked it out there was a lil coolant in the res but he says its a normal amount. before it was boiling in the bottle to the point the bottle had expanded and the lid popped off ;now there is less then an inch of warm coolant in it. this weekend im going to change the coolant and add some of that water wetter. i think that it will be ok thanks for the help guys.

I had a simaler problem. Car was running hot even down the highway. I built a ghetto fied cooling panel which really helped, so I will buy the real deal sometime this summer.

I also made a tray that goes from my front SE lip on my S14 to the radiator core support. Its not directing air, but making sure it doesnt just shoot out from under the car.

Those two things made a huge difference in cooling temps during cruising for me. I did not spend more than 35 bucks and it did the trick.

I use a stock S14 rad btw, with rb25det.
