Hey guys,

I've been reading tons of write ups, but there is only one thing that I'm wondering about going from an auto KA24 to a manual RB25. I'm still 1 year off from my project, and there's just one thing thats just in the back of my mind that needs answering :D .

Ok, this would be for an s13 (possibly an 89 that I'm eyeballing right now). Alright here we go, it is an automatic, I know about the procedure and all the parts except for one. About the driveshaft where you need a carrier bearing on it as well to hook up a manual ka24 engine. Now I was wondering (since I don't plan to switch trannies till the RB swap) if I would still need to locate this "Carrier bearing". Or if I do go for the Mckinney kit with the driveshaft, do I still need to worry about getting this Carrier bearing? From my current understanding, the KA24 driveshaft is a two piece drive shaft, and the carrier bearing is that first bearing off the first tube right? I hope I got my understanding down. I've been scouring the internet and the FSM trying to figure out if the carrier bearing is what the FSM calls a center bearing since I can't find mention of this carrier bearing.

Thanks in advance for your help guys ^^

Just get a one piece driveshaft and forget al together about the carrier bearing.

It was only like $80 more to get a one piece compared to shortening the driveshaft and balancing with the new front yoke when I had mine made and one piece is a hell of alot better.

Hack the front off the KA driveshaft and weld on the front of a RB25 shaft.Don't forget to balance it!

I went the Mckinney mounts and driveshaft route, since I would have eneded up paying a shop to make the shaft anyway. If you get in a bind when you get ready to do the swap, I still have my original driveshaft, and the RB25 driveshaft.

thanks for the replies guys ^^. So as it sounds, I don't need to worry about locating a carrier bearing if I go for a 1 pc. driveshaft :D . I'm gonna have to look into that automatic 240sx I've spotted then, since i found clutch parts and all already :ylsuper . Thanks for the offer NISMO ^^, but I also think I'm quite a ways off from my swap. I'm still just trying to procure a chassis, and still figuring out all the logistics ( finding a buddy with a good sized garage and such) for working on this project. I've just been needing a new project since I finished building my new computer, and don't really feel like tinkering with my Spec all that much (I miss having a RWD car, my last RWD car was an old muscle car that I enjoyed).
