I'm shopping around for an aluminum driveshaft for my swap and wanted to see if there were more places to get one? I know the driveshaftshop, but any others?

I have the RB25, S13, using McKinney mounts. I looked on The Driveshaft Shop's website and they do not have a pre-made aluminum shaft for that combo. I measured and gave them the measurements and have not heard back from them yet. Anyone know how long it takes for them to get the shaft out to you?

I've been meaning to post and ask this: is it really that much difference between an aluminum and steel driveshaft? Like, would you notice a difference if you only wanted like 325 whp MAX? Or is more about revs? And if it's revs, would you notice a difference if you didn't have a lightened flywheel?

Shaftmasters. They're a supporter of the site and have quality products and great prices.

ShaftMasters is were I got my Steel shaft from. I really don't think you will notice a difference between aluminum and steel unless your at a Dyno or something.

But they seem to make great products, I have beat the heck out of mine at the track this year and i have not managed to blow it yet LOL!!

cool, thanks for the link

as for the aluminum...won't add any horsepower. Its like a lightened flywheel, just makes rotational mass less for the engine and it will be able to rev quickly. When I'm spending that much for a shaft might as well get the aluminum for a bit more and the engine already has a lightened flywheel.

also, why do they designate between ABS and non-ANS cars? Does it change anything

Mine came equipped with hicas and ABS from the factory....

and the shaft masters driveshaft do not specify what mount kit was used for the RB swap, does that matter?

I am going to have to go ahead and recommend you get the McKinney driveshaft (since you're already using the mounts..). It's somewhat expensive but it will probably be the best one for the cause.

The weight difference between and aluminum vs steel is minor. I remember compared the two from an SR and it was like a 2-3 lbs difference. As for ABS and non-ABS, the ABS model cars have a sensor in the diff, which lengthens the diff by about an inch. This means the driveshaft will have to an inch shorter. Also if you really have to have an aluminum driveshaft, make sure they can use the heavy duty U-Joints.

true, but I can give measurements to either of the online companies and get an aluminum/steel shaft for quite a bit cheaper. I thought I was going to get the stock R33 driveshaft that I could have a local shop modify for about $200 or so, but I didn't so now I'm stuck having to find one.

Hmm, thats interesting about the ABS...it no longer has the stock diff, we put in a normal welded diff for drifting so I doubt it has an ABS diff anymore. So it would now be counted as non-abs car for the driveshaft length?

The RB was dynoed at 390hp at one point before I got it and I don't know if it had mods after that for more hp...as far as strength of product, anyone recommend thedriveshaftshop or shaftmasters more? Good/bad reviews?

I just received mine from them, and overall I cant complain seems likes great quality. The only problem I had with mine was I measured wrong and had to have 3/4 inch taken out and rebalanced. But other than that great driveshaft for the price.

Since I'm being quoted in the subject line, I'm going to assume the ebay driveshaft shop I posted above since it's the only post I made in this thread.

I'll definately give them a shot.

If you had bought a SYKO mount kit, they had a deal with Driveshaftshop.com . you get a discount when you order the syko first. then when you buy the 1pc they give you a code for a discount!

the only thing to keep in mind about doing this is the fact that nissan u joints are not changable, so if you have a driveshaft made and a u joint gose out your screwed. now i have made 2 driveshafts this way and have not had any issues with them at all. i had it done localy for around 90 dollors so i didnt care because i didnt have much in it. also if any one needs a r33 yoke i have 1 extra from a new motorset

haha as for aluminum i pulled the drivshaft from a G20 chevy van and had it made for my new project and it is waaaaaaay lighter than my old shaft, we will see how much power it can handle

well, like I said, I couldn't have a driveshaft made so I was opting for a premade one. Ended up getting the shaftmasters aluminum shaft. Came in about a week ago and looks great! Currently the subframe is being swapped and I'm waiting on a non-hicas knuckle before I can install it...so the shaft has to wait to be installed.
