looks about perfect on the dip stick, but how the hell do i know if the filter is filled up? what a PITA. i was zip tieing random wires and **** out of my way, got it on the ground, and filled with oil. tried to crank it, and nothing. had to get the jack and stands back out and put it back in the air. my zip tie pulled the negative off the starter. im such a nub.

anyhow, 3.5 quarts right for a 25? my first time, so bare with me please.

it was right at the half way point. perfect really, but that was at 3.5 quarts. if these other guys put 4.5+, then that would be a bit too low. i ended up putting another quart in. 4.5 exactly. ill check it after i drive on it a bit.

just for refrence, 4.5 was perfect. after driving it, and re-checking it later last night. 4.5 seems to be the magic number. i was suprised i couldnt find this anywhere.

4.5L is about to the top ... each engine will vary a tiny bit. ill go up to 5L as well.

10w-40 synthetic is the heaviest id go with. i was running 5w-30 reg oil and that was fine but based on my bearing clearances after the build i should be using 10w-40. currently im using motul v300 15w50 and its WAY too much ... my oil pressure is runreal at times. im going to change it out to motul 8100 10w40 in a couple of weeks as i just put the v300 in and its $20/L

My oil pan was pushed in when I got the clip and mine wil only take 4qts to the top line on the dipstick. I am currently running 5w-30 synthetic (Mobil 1), but I'm planning on going with 10W-30 on my next oil change.

Just curious. Im removing the factory oil cooler and using a GREX oil cooler. How much do you guys think oil wise it would add to the total amount of oil needed? Im running 10w-30 mobil 1 atm, but im switching to AMSOIL 10W-30.

Last time i filled up i used about 4.5 quarts of oil.

^^LOLZ...

Down here... we all pretty much stick to the 10-40 weight. Its kinda like the unknown (known) thing to do. Mabye our changing climate has something to do with that. BTW: On a freshly built motor I would probably run 10-30- or 5-30

the FSM recommends 7.5w30, which i'm guessing is between a 5w30 and a 10w30. Pointless to run more than 10w30 on a stock block unless you're seriously tracking it and heating the oil a lot. There's a thing called too much oil pressure too. Most people on here have barely modded to stock motors, so really anything above 10w30 is too thick IMO.

Of course if your motor is built and you have looser clearances then sure you can run thicker oil. If you're running big boost and really taxing the motor then you might want thicker oil too.

HPF Chrisk - this ^^^^^ is the reason why I am going to switch to a slightly thicker oil. I'm built and my lifters tick upon startup. I'm hoping slightly thicker oil will help on startup.
