I am thinking of buying a 1995 240sx with a rb25 in it. The swap is already done and the car was running.Car has a/c and 5 spd trans. It currently has the head off of the engine and the cams are missing. Paint is in decent shape and the car looks good overall. He is asking $4000 as is. Is this a good price, If not what is the most i should offer. Any info would be great.

4000 is cheap considering to get the RB and put it in cost 3600. Just for a stock RB25.

It may be cheap, depending on why the head is off the motor. I doubt he just took the head off for no reason. Find out what's wrong with the motor, and see how much money you have to drop to get it running again, then you'll know if it's cheap or not.

He took off the head to change the head gasket and port the head. The head did not get ported. The stock intake is ported. The car has been apart for about a year and the cams are damaged. So i would need to buy some cams and a gasket kit to put it back together. The car looks like the one in 300plus sig. He is the original owner of the car. How much are a set of cams and gasket kit going to cost?

Aftermarket cams are relatively tough to come by, I'm one of maybe 7 or 8 people I know of on here with a set. Stock cams should be a bit easier and cheaper. Gasket sets are available through sponsors or eBay.

If the bottom end is still good, I'd say it's a pretty decent deal.

ive seen cams for rb's for sale on alot of sites try nengun.com first. prolly gonna run you about 500.00, and you dont know what really happened to that engine, like how did they damage the cams/ blow the stock h/g does it have rod knock, are the rods/bearings straight. sounds to me like you may be buying someone elses 4000.00 headache.

I know the guy selling the car and i saw the car running before it was taken apart. I know the bottom end is in good condition. I just dont know if it worth $4000 taken apart, Thats what i am trying to find out. What is the cheapest i can find a car like this but running. I figure if i buy the car i need about $1000 to get it running, So i would have $5000 in the car.

considering the rb25 transmission is $1k, block $800, mounts, $300-$400, driveshaft $300, wiring $150, clutch, ecu & electronics, etc.... you come out with a car that's $2k-ish or less. i say that's a good deal. take it from that perspective.

Yeah sounds like a good deal to me. Hell, I paid $4200 for my clip shipped about a year ago.

Plus if you look in the CLASSIFIEDS thread, I have my stock cam shafts for sale for a reasonable price I even have a stock head gasket if you want that too.

I think you should buy the car and then e-mail me.

cam's are damaged? you better check the valvetrain for damage..

might be cheaper/easier to just find a low mileage head...
