ok just need some help with this one I just got the rb25det but I'm still not sure if that was the best choise

I was reading in a different forum, and I still can change my rb25 for a rb20

now here is the deal

what are the huge gains in having the rb25 as opposed to the rb20? -- i mean, it's a $1500usd different just for the clips... is that really worth it with my plan on what i want to do?what kind of power can you get out of either of these engines?

if i go with the rb20, i can get that much quicker than an rb25, or sr20 for that matter. is the rb20 quick enough? and cheaper on the long run?

oh and the plan is about 500rwhp or maybe more

I guess my question is how much can you get out of the rb20

well the initial cost is more for the 25, parts aren't really that much different cost wise, it'll be easier to make more power with it. I've had an rb20 and rb25 and to me the 25 was alot more fun to drive, it just had more power everywhere. I would go ahead and spend more and get the 25

If your goal is 500hp, it will probably cost more to get the rb20det to support that than it would to just go ahead and get the rb25det now.

get a 25 and you can make 500hp on it without ever cracking it open.

Wow it's been ages since I have seen a stupid thread like this. Looks like someone didn't even try to use the search button.... or it could be they thought it was an original question.

If you really want 500hp, then stick with the RB25.You've got the better transmission and turbo stock.Hopefully you wont have the small oil pump drive.

Plus parts availability is better for the 25.

But you know 500 hp is a shyt ton of power right especially in a S chassis.

If you're talking about street driving, no it's not. These are very short stroke motors and have very little low end TQ. You can keep the stock cams for 500hp so idle and noise levels are maintained. On the street it's a total p**** cat if you don't drive like a maniac.

The RB25 you have a better tranmission and better low end torque. Save your self money and get a motorset and not a clip. Plus I hear the RB20 pixie dust is on back order
