i have extensivly searched for a rebuild kit or part numbers for a RB20 transmission. i have found nothing. i beleive the tree assembly on a nissan pathfinder will interchange with the RB?? not sure on the trueness of that but anyways does anyone know of a rebuild kit?? or part numbers for synchros?? seals? any help would be greatly appreciated.

also does any one know if you have to machine the bores to allow for double synchros?? im still a newb when it comes to manual transmission. i have only learned about automatics but i will be educated shortly and am in need of rebuilding the transmission...

thank you

hey try searching.

I remember seeing something that the KA rebuild kit was the same except for a couple of the pieces. Also maybe Z31 transmission parts maybe similar.

Also there was a thread about swapping the Pathfinder transmission.

And there is a thread where RBZ32 i think pulled a rb25 transmission apart.

Definetly post up what you find and pics.In case other guys need to rebuild their transmission.

The Rb20 uses a SR20/KA24 transmission with a different front and rear housing, every thing should be the same or pretty much the same from what ive researched.

The RB25 and 5 speed rb26's are essentially z32 and 86.5+ z31 turbo transmsissions. The pathfinder might also be the same, but it uses different gearing, and you dont want to run that gearing. Same with the different front and rear housings though.

Using a KA trans in an rb20 bellhousing moves the shifter back about 4 inches, and requires you to cut some of the firewall. Its too far back even if you use the r32 crossmember. I think you may even need a shortened drive shaft.

I read this a few weeks ago while searching.

I've dissassembled my trans as well and searched for bearings, but buying a used trans from an importer seems to be a cheaper route.

From what ive read, the pathfinder statement is true, but the pathfinder's 1st and 2nd gear are too short to be usefull in cars like ours. if you could swap 1st and 2nd gear you should be good though... but again this for the RB25 and 5spd RB26 trannies, not the RB20,so sorry OP i got nothin

I really need help with this guys. Im assuming that all i will need to replace is the syncro sleeves on all the syncros and new blocker rings? and of course a new input shaft bearing and other various bearings?? any one iwth part numbers or even an exploded view of the rb20 transmission i would greatly appreciate it

Again to my knowledge from what I've searched.

The KA/SR trans internals are similar EXCEPT for a couple of pieces.

If you switch your gearbox for a KA gearbox. One bolt hole will not line up with the RB bellhousing, your shifter will be in your center armrest and you will need a shorter Dshaft.

My buddy rb20chris did the swap.He had to make a custom shifter out of a mustang shifter backwards.

Or find someone in Japan that can send you a rebuild kit.
