Sr20det seems to be a popular choice, however the RB20 is more affordable to my budget. Is this motor worth it as far as reliability, parts and potential? I would only want around 275hp. Why is it cheaper than the SR? I see it's a 6 cyclinder, is it a gas guzzler? Lastly is the swap direct as the SR would be or is this complicated? Thanks.

the SR swap is not direct if you have a usdm car. SR's were made to fit in S chassis so id imagine an RB20 swap would have more headaches. but you should do your own research.

Budget and motor swaps shouldn't be in the same sentence... unless of course it's a several thousand dollar budget

I have a rb20 and they are money pits. I love my engine but, parts are super expensive if available at all. The swap it self isnt too bad. The engine is usually cheaper than the s14 and s15 sr becuase the rb20 is a 20+ year old engine. RB's have iron blocks and are super reliable however. Since your power goal is only about 275, you could roll with a s15 sr which will give you 250 out the box, do minimal modage and be done with it fairly cheap. Both are good engine, but if you decide to go the RB rout just know what your getting yourself into. I work on RB's a lot so if you have any specific questions about the swap PM me.

my rb isn't a money pit. the project car "as a whole" can be seen as a money pit. ive had my rb20 for years. and i love the engine. it starts up always and i can drive it anywhere. it's light and quick in the 13 chasis. iam getting a 25 now cause i need more power. but i will always have a knowledge and a appreciation for the 20.

Not a 20 but parts are easy to find for my RB25, the only thing that seems so costly is major head work.
