Hello, I did a search in a few different forums but couldn't find the exact info I was looking for, so I hope I'm in the right place.

Basically, I have a 1989 GTS-t that I am trying to get ready to be my daily in about a year and it currently has an auto rb20det in it. The motor runs but could definitely use some work, and with only low to moderate power goals, I am wondering whether or not it is cost effective to rebuild the rb20det versus dropping in an rb25det. While I know I would get a reliable engine rebuilding the 20, it seems like a waste to spend so much money to get a gasket rebuild and swap the trans when I can spend a similar amount on a low mileage 25 and have most of the power I'm looking for. I am just looking for opinions on what someone with more experience than myself would do here. I wont be able to do the work myself as I don't have a garage or tools, so labor costs are a factor as well. I plan on one shop doing the swap, as well as another fabricating me a custom driveshaft.

The RB25 is a better engine in terms of power production potential and reliability under more stress. I personally would do an RB25 swap if your RB20 is on its way out.

Or just swap another rb20 motor set in and rebuild the old one for fun and turn it into an rb24det. But the rb25neo would be a great option, and is great stock.
