WELL HELLO GUYS

this is my first post on this site ...

i am located in washington state and recently obtained an rb20det for pretty cheap

i am in the process of rebuilding it since i was told that the engine has a blown head gasket (picked up from a shop in the area)

did a cylinder leak down test .. results:cylinder #1 - 25%cylinder #2 -30%cylinder #3 - 40% ahhcylinder #4 - 31%cylinder #5 - 27%cylinder #6 - 22%

so yeah .. it might just be warped .. noticed most of the gasket were pretty worn .. and the block is a bit rusted in the block .. you can see all the orange in the coolant channels ... also when i look in the cylinder through spark plug holes .. i can see it is pretty much VERy black and as well as the spark plugs being black .... was running rich i guess .. not very well taken care of engine being a 240 before i got a hold of it

i am going to be taking the head off tomorrow hopefully

waht i have purchased already:-nissan r32 (rb20det) engine gasket kit-water pump-thermostat-timing beltsome more stuff but i forgot ..

i have heard about the crank collar near the oil pump ? waht is that about? waht should i buy to eliminate the problem since i got the means and the engine apart!

anything i should upgrade?

waht should i look for? while i have it apart?anything in particular will show wear the most?waht else should i buy?waht should i invest in?

my budget is $700.00 total .. so yeah .. see waht im workin with

i dont have to pay for work to be done since i am doing everything myself. i am currently attending a local technical school . and we have ALOT of tools (many specialty tools) that i have access too

and i might have a discount at local machine shops .. but i dont know about that .. hopefully .. get the dech machined to make sure it is better

here are some pics

thanks muchMARCO

the crank collar issue...

your best bet is to get it running as close to stock as you can. try not to take any shortcuts, and make sure you get a decent clutch.

im blind when it comes to info about the motor itself (rb series) ...

all i got is my previous , present and future mechanica skills/inclination ...

except i downloaded and printed out the FSM that i found on this site .. it is freaken $37.00 dollars of printing but well worth it ... used it already so much

its fun because i am building it at school ... but others always want to see it

i also decided to take off the oil pan

expose the crank

so its almost all taken apart

any suggestions? see anything wrong?

i see a couple things but i am wondering if you guys see anything?

should i look for anything?

what should i do to the valve assembly obviously with all the carbon deposits?

well any suggestions would be nice

and again ..

dont know much about rb20det .. so inform me

but i know a bit about engine rebuild .. haha .. and doing this in school

Your 30 some bolts and a new set of bearing away from putting a crank collar in there might as well do that too.

i should hope that if you are tearing it down that you are also going to do a rering on the motor...a quick head job shouldnt be too expensive either.
