Hey guys I have a technical question for everybody that can help me out. I know there's probably a bunch of different threads on this deal but quite frankly I am tired of going through the web and not getting a straight answer from any of the threads that I read. So when I bought this car (S14) It came with a half a** RB20DET swap done to it and I had to finish it. Well the problem is that when I finally got it running and idleing right it idled at about 1000-1500 RPM (I know isn't irght but considering that it wouldn't hold idle in the first place it was a good thing) well it would over heat (don't know what temp because there is no temp gauge installed, I could just smell the coolant over flow) this car has a mushimoto radiator with an electric fan pushing air. I noticed it was going through coolant so I would refill and just go about my business and now she is running at right under if not at 3000 RPM when I fill with coolant it lowers the idle a little bit so I figure there is probably some air bubbles somewhere in the system so this weekend I'm going to replace my thermostat and flush my cooling system to see if that helps just a little. I just don't see an air pocket causing my car to idle at 3000 RPM at all. So I guess my question is, do you guys think it could just be an air pocket or so you think there could be some other issues that I need to look at? I've checked to make sure there aren't any vacuum leaks I mean hell I replaced all the hoses when I bought the car and that's what got it to actually idle. Also I have to crank it over about 10 times for it to actually start. My thoughts are maybe a bad head gasket but I don't want to tear into it and the head gasket be just fine and I just spent a bunch of money replacing all the gaskets when I could be using the money for other parts. If someone could just give me a straight answer that would be great because I cant seem to find a good troubleshoot anywhere!

If the stock intake manifold is on the motor the coolant bleeder bolt is on the front of the manifold. You might also have a leak from one of the coolant hoses under the intake manifold. Jack up the car take the starter off or just flash a light up under it and look for a rust trail from the coolant.

Would I be correct though? Think this could be why it idle's at 3000RPM? I just can't imagine why it would Idle so high if there was just a air bubble in the coolant system.

Idle @ 3k is prob IACV needs to be adjusted. But 1st you should check the timing and tps to make sure they are set right. If you have an Auto ecu timing needs to be @ 20, if it's a 5spd ecu it needs to be @ 15.

Well I went to replace the thermostat and good thing I did because it was rusted to hell. That and the thermostat housing is cracked which is wonderful because I can't find a replacement part in the US. I know that the IACV can be cleaned but I honestly had no idea that it could be adjusted. I was going to clean it last night but I had limited time working on the car and spent most of it messing with the coolant system to find out it was a lot worse than I thought. So I guess my question is now how does one "adjust" the IACV?
