I am installing a rb20 into a 89 s13 with the stock r32 crossmember and mounts.

Is it possible to install the engine and transmission " attached together" into the s13 chassis all at once.

I would install from under the car but I dont have a lift. And If i have to I will install the engine from the top and the trans from the bottom

I dropped my 25 in from the top with the transmission attached.

Things to do first.-take belt driven fan off the motor-If you aren't keeping the AC, take the compressor off-Take the radiator out- swap out the X member, and powersteering lines -Take off your exhaust from the turbo back, since it is going to hit your steering shaft.

Lower the transmission/motor in at 45degree angle, As you start getting it all lined up, place a floor jack (that rolls) under the transmission and start jacking it up as you lower the motor. Line it up, bolt it in.

Two people will make this a hell of alot easier. I was very lucky I happened to have everything lined up well enough to do it by myself.

Good Luck!!

like me: i have limited hand tools, two jack-stands, and a cherry picker. i lifted the front end of the car up really high with the cherry-picker and let it sit on the jackstands; then slid the motor (with the xmember already mounted under the motor) from underneath. then lower the car. i think i wasn't b--tching that much going that route.

I dropped mine from the top at a very sharp angle. It will go in just make sure is high enough on those jack stands.

im planning on dropping just the motor in .. cuz i left my transmission in there..the hardest part will be getting the bolts on top of the transmission.

somebody else tried that (installing the transmission after) when they changed the clutch after the engine was in and said if they would've had a choice they would have put it in all together because its really hard to do separate. but hey see what works for you.. try the engine by itself and dont bolt it down and then try to install the transmission and see if you can get a long enough extension and swivel socket to install it and let us know how it goes.
