So i've pretty much narrowed down my engine swap choices between a ca18det or the rb20det.(really want the inline 6)have been reasearching for months on what the right swap would be for my personal goals.with that said just been trying to find out how much more the rb20det weighs over the ka24de,so i have an idea of how much more weight would be forward of my front wheels.

its about 100lbs but u have to factor in that the rb is longer so its ganna give u a different weight distrobution over the wheels

well if its less 200 pounds extra im not too worried than.but from my research the weight distribution seems to be the ultimate factor.from guys who have done the swap its my understanding that as long as its mounted low enough and with a good suspension set up it wont adversly destroy the feel of the car.

the reason im not going with the rb25det,is mostly cause of price. An power is the least of my concerns, which if it was it would be a no brainer to purchase the rb25.When i have some serious money to burn i'll step up to the 25.even after the rb20det is in the car i prolly wont be doing any modding to it for quite sumtime anyway,so it works for my current needs.

most places i have seen its about 500-700 dollars more around the price of SR's,could be im just looking in the wrong place.but what i have seen the rb20det is dirt cheap even at times slightly cheaper than the ca18det just cause no one wants them.also taking into account all the parts i will need for swap including maintance parts that should be replaced before its even dropped in.

yea thats all that matters bcuz ur lowering the center of gravity on the car meaning less wash outs and just get some good coilovers let me know weather ur autocrossing or drifting and ill let u know some good one or what to look for

definitly drifting,i just wanna get the swap down properly make sure its running well and effciantly.than build up rest of the car than worry about more power, suspension being top priority.

I weighed them both with a crane scale in a pretty fair test in this thread:

ka24de-and-rb20det-engine-weighed-t464631.html

It's a LOT less than people think.

**** I NEED A MOD TO CHANGE THE TITLE OF THAT THREAD TO "ENGINE WEIGHT" NOT "WEIGHED" SO PEOLPE WILL FIND IT ***

very nice thank you, that would definitly explain why people who have done the swap say its not that much of a huge effect on performance with the extra weight

What engine do you currently have?

If you have a functioning KA, keep it. If not, snatch a KA for practically nothing. Keep the chassis and engine stock until your driver-mod necessitates modification. not worth a class bump.

its currently engine and transless, was purchased that way.cause if it was a running car,i would have just built up the suspension and other areas first.which are more important to me anyway.

yeah suspension first, and the weight difference in motors doesn't mean s***..adjust your suspension/power to fit your needs. If you can drive, you can drive.. if you can't than don't bother racing. It's like how people told me the yzf250 was better than the kx250f but it's the rider that makes the difference.
I did the same thing as you as far as cars go.. I have a fast motor with a stock chassis, and it's working perfectly fine for me because i go to school and work and back, that's it. When track season comes around, I'll have everything ready, but that's not any time soon thanks to northern season weather.
So to anyone who says not to drive the car without suspension/brakes and handling all together, blow me.. :)

to the OP, make sure you replace your motor mounts with something more substantial

yea parking a car for several months sucks, but the down time is great for getting work done on it.one of the first things im doing is taking care of the motor mounts cause regardless what engine goes in the factory ones are shot to s*** anyway.
