Got a question here, im a bit puzzled and really have no clue where to look or what to search under, but here we go. Ordered an rb26 engine off of ebay, took it apart and just completly looks rebuilt with aftermarket parts: heres my swap thread with pics of everything http://www.wisconsinzcrew.com/...743.0

but anyways the car came with a ecu says rb25 on one side and rb20 on the other side. Then I looked up the part number (which is 23710 11U00) and looks like it goes for a rb20det....

Why would I get the wrong ecu?? will this ecu work woth a rb26? Im almost thinking the car had a aftermarket ems or something so they pulled that off and grabbed a ecu sitting around and threw it in there.. im already confused about ems and the electronics lol this just makes it worse

proly swiped the ecu...sucks because that thing is going to hate life on a stock ecu unless you tune it.im gonna bet it has large injectors too seeing as those look like hks 2530's and with hks cams as well as a possible built bottom end some one was making power with that engine.

you could try the rb20 ecu but it is a serious backstep from the standard 26 gear...you need to also check and verify the injector size on the engine since its been modified...a stock ecu will not run larger injectors.

If I order a rb26 ecu and use nistune think that will work? also think the wiring harness is still useable?

i have a stock r33 rb26dett ecu wich you dont need now and it probably wont even work for you since you have an r32 rb26. how much did you pay for that motor cause you got really lucky and i mean lucky with all those parts.

yea, very nice find man as long as everything is sound. I would crack open that ECU and see if it's been modified at all.

what do i look for? how can i tell if its been modified? also found out theres a HKS MAP sensor hanging off the engine so Im guessing they had HKS EMS

Did the engine come with MAF sensors?

Could of had a HKS VPC Installed along with a ROM Tuned RB20 ECU to run a MAP. What I would look for is any modification done to the board or a swapped rom. (but i guess they would all look generic?)

Or perhaps it may have had a HKS FCon (pro) of some sort installed and the guess of the person throwing in the available RB20 ecu was the case.

I was thinking they had HKS FCON since the whole block is pretty much HKS... This is my first engine swap and I never used "piggy back" systems or anything like that before so Im a little confused still how this all works. does the fcon like manage the engine and you use the stock rb20 ecu to run all the other stuff like gauge cluster and lights and stuff?

no the engine didnt come with the maf sensors

Also Im looking at trying to get at least 400-600HPI got the rb20 ecu and wiring harness hooks up to it and all plugs on the engine. I ordered the rb26 ecu just in case i need it. I wanna use nistune with the rb26 ecu, think that will work or will I need to buy something more expensive to get those hp numbers?

could of been hooked up to a Fcon as the determining factors are really pointing to that:

HKS Engine PartsHKS MAP SensorAbsent factory MAFSAbsent factory ECURandom RB20 ECU attached

Might have noticed it was worth some coin and pull the ECU off of the motorset and swapped it out with this one.

The FCon is a stand alone which replaces the factory ECU altogether and manages the engine and all the other tasks the original ECU did.

got the rb26 ecu today! talk about "overnight parts from JAPAN!"

Right away I decide to take them both apart and compare, looking at other ecu's from the internet, looks like my rb26 ecu was chipped how lucky, but downside it looks just a little beat up.

If you wanted to save some money you could always use the freeware rom edit program with a base map and tune from there.

Ive seen up to 500hp done like that.
