Well, the gauge clusters can be no fun to deal with...
If you have a jdm s13 cluster and are trying to use it in a 240 with an rb20, your going to run into the same problems as with a stock 240 cluster. I had never found any write ups for this either but I will tell you how I did it and you can try with yours if you like. Just don't hold me responsible for something that may not work...
I bought a r32 cluster and it fits tightly with some small mods, but it made the tach work. What I did to wire it in was this...
I pulled out my old cluster and took the new one and layed them next to each other with the circut board side facing me. I grabed two pieces of paper and on the clusters next to each spot where the connectors go in it describes what pin is what and I wrote down both in order on seperate pieces of paper. Next I labeled each wire with tape to what it was for the stock cluster in case I have to go back and plus it just makes life easier. Next, I pulled out each pin on the connectors and put them back into the connectors in the new places they have to go for the new cluster. Now plug the connectors in the new cluster and your all done!
Some things will now work, but I haven't gotten all of mine to work yet. But nothing before this had worked on the stock cluster so it turned out pretty decently.
Hope this helps, good luck!
