Hes anyone else had one hell of a time pulling the crank timing pulley on there RB? I was told to use prybars from a nissan tech at a dealer around here and mckinney motorsports said the same thing when i asked them about it.

Ive got the pulley out about 3/8's of an inch from the oil pump and im stuck, this was after hours of prying and pulling with p. b. blaster.

I cant find a good puller that will get behind it yet, most wont fit, the ones that did fit either slipped off or broke.

So im looking for further help!

Never do it with a crowbar, you will just break/bend ****.

The RB20 pulley will have two holes tapped in to it. You then need to get yourself one of these Harmonic Balancer Pullers and some bolts to suit and itl pop right off:

behind the harmonic balancer, the crank timing pulley doesnt have bolt holes in it. I thought about drilling and tapping but im not sure if it will workI mean it is on there TIGHT.

you may end up breaking the timing gear, i was able to remove mine but only with a one-off tool that a local tech let me borrow.if you are pulling the gear to replace the oil pump then i wouldnt be too worried about destroying the pump, otherwise you'll be drilling and tapping the gear to get it off.

I pulled mine off with my fingers, different thermal expansion rates FTW! It was about 20 degrees in my garage....

i always scotch brite the snout first to get rid of any surface rest. Then use a torch to heat and expand the gear. After a few minutes of prying they usually pop off. I have only had two instances where I had to crack the gear off... both rb20's

I must of pulled about a half dozen of them off by my fingers. Never once had the unfortunate occurance of the stuck gear.

Then again, I am strong enough to compress coil springs with one hand.

On my 25, I just gave it a slight tap with a rubber mallet, and it came right off (I about threw it, thinking it was going to be heavy!). I also had a nice Proto gear puller next to me, ready for the challenge.

I think my crank notice the gear puller, and quickly gave up the fight! Much like the French military..

i wish it were that easy, a buddy of mine and i were prying on each side an it only slid a little bit. (no childrens prybars either) im goin to try to get another puller in behind the pulley and use a spray by locktite that will freeze and cause stress cracks in the rust.

Someone just did a writeup about this. It was either on here or on 240sxforums. Do a little searching. I'll try to find it too.
