Okay so I got the water pump/timing belt/idler/tensioner replaced, and in the process (I set the engine to TDC #1 before removing the belt) I believe the exhaust cam moved a couple of teeth when the original belt came off. I noticed there were alignment marks on the new timing belt that corresponded with the dots on the cams, so I aligned the intake cam dot, then moved the exhaust cam into alignment with the mark on the timing belt (it was 2 teeth off) and put everything back together. tried to start it and it sputters and acts like its still a tooth off. Anyone have any advice/pics on the proper locations to ensure that the cams are aligned properly? I assume the following:

1. TDC is the 1st mark on the crank shaft2. White painted marks on the timing backing plate represent cam timing marks for intake cam and exhaust cam3. there are also larger bumps on the back of the cam back plate, but they do not seem to be aligned with the cams...

The dots on the back cover are supposed to be aligned with the dots on the cams. The part where I got confused is, I believe there are two solid lines on the belt, and one dotted, I figured the dotted went on the crank and the solids went on the lines. This is not true, one of the dotted lines actually goes on a cam, you'll figure it out as long as the crank is at TDC, and the cams are aligned with the dots on the rear cover. It helps to have the valve covers off so you can see where the lobes are. Intake lobe just closed, exhaust lobe is about to open.

Good luck!

***EDIT*** Okay I got it, turns out the white painted marks were the right alignment points... thanks for the help!

Now I get to figure out why after replacing the timing belt tensioner/idler/water pump I still have a high pitch whine...
