My second gear went on my RB20det Transmission it was grinding like hell and the transmission shops around me said they could fix it but it was going to cost the same amount as getting a transmission. So I searched and found one luckily for a good price from a reputable person.
I installed this transmission and put the motor back in with the transmission and bolted everything back up and plumbed it all. Thinking all was okay I go to install the shifter back into the new transmission. The transmission came to me without a bell housing and I had to swap the bell housing from my old transmission to the new one. This was a little tough but I got it done and got it all back in working order, or so I thought. When the shifter was put in the hole it will not go into any gears it doesn't feel like its even in neutral. I know something is up.
So then I called Carl and a few other friends and Carl tells me about the three shafts when replacing the bell housing and how they have to be lined up or aligned correctly but I dont have a full factory service manual to see exactly what has to be done and his is burried. I also read in another post that you have to make sure that the gears are in neutral. I just figured pull one bell housing replace it with the next. I didn't think there was going to be any adjusting going on. If anyone has any suggestions or could email me the FSM that talks about this topic that would be great.
Right now where I am standing I am going to have to pull the motor back out and undo everything I just redid because of my second gear. I plan on taking it to a transmission shop and letting them get it aligned properly so that it will go into all the gears. I just had no idea something like this would come about. I have have the worst luck. After 5 times of pulling the motor for various reasons it won't be too hard but if there are any suggestions where I don't have to pull the motor and transmission that would be fantastic.
